Vehicle Detail

1951 Pontiac Catalina SD. I originally purchased this car on e-bay in March 2005. Restoration of the exterior was done ca. 2002 in Clatskanie, OR. The paintwork is of very high quality that has held up very well. The two tone tints match the original colors very closely. The person that had the restoration done told me that the paintjob cost him $6000 and involved all the proper preparation, taking the surface down to bare metal followed by etch primer, primer surfacer, sealer, custom mix base coat and finally clearcoat. In addition, the bumpers, bumper guards and grille have all been re-chromed and rubber weather stripping replaced around the doors and trunk. The interior is all original except for the carpet on the floor. The seats are the original leather that I repaired and re-dyed to the original colors. I could have had the upholstery redone, but I could not bear to rip out the original leather. The car is powered by the original 268 cu in (and I believe unmolested) straight eight flathead engine and four speed hydromatic transmission. The car starts and runs good at a steady temp of 180 F. The four speed hydromatic transmission shifts good. This car was equipped with just about every possible option available from Pontiac in 1951 including radio with power antenna, clock, dual spotlights, fog lights, traffic light viewer, turnsignals, fender skirts, tissure holder, flashlight and flashlight bracket. The radio and clock have been restored and the power antenna converted to manual operation. The radio works fine and the clock works sometimes. The only other issues, that I’m aware of are a small radiator leak below the lower radiator hose input, a malfunctioning gas gauge, an apparent short in the fog light circuit, and a leaking shaft seal in the differential. I have a replacement gas gauge and differential seal and just haven't gotten around to installing it. There are a couple of small chips in the windshield on the passenger side. The glass in the triangular vent windows is becoming delaminated and the return spring on the driver side inside door handle is broken or missing, but that is about it. I have a lot of small parts that I will include in the sale. This is not a hot rod. The previous owner and myself have made every effort to keep the car as original as possible. The tires are radials with narrow whitewalls and as such are not period correct. I have taken this car to numerous car shows and it has been a hit wherever I go. I think it is the originality that makes it popular. I have enjoyed this vehicle very much but I think it is time to move it along to someone else to enjoy in the future. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pick-up. I will happy to assist with shipping details.
