I have driven this car 70mph on the highway, no shimmy in steering, no vibrations, smooth and fun. Last month car started stalling out when temperature hits 160 degrees, it is not vapor lock as fuel line is not hot. I have been told to replace the 6 volt ignition coil as this is a common problem. I can start the car, drive around the neighborhood, shift gears, she runs great until temp hits 160 and engine starves out and stalls. It is a simple fix. I will try to install a new battery and ignition coil prior to auction end, but make no guarantees I will accomplish this task due to lack of free time. Prior to stalling issue it was not uncommon for me to drive this car 300 miles in a weekend, I would not hesitate to drive across country as long as stalling issue is eliminated. Yes, she runs and drives that good! The prior owner is a famous Custom Hot rod builder in Northern Va. He has his own TV show. The Car has been used in numerous magazines, photo shoots, and pinn ups. The car was kept in an enclosed trailer while in his possession and used for shows. I currently and have always kept the car in the garage. The car is valued by Hagerty at 18-22k. However due to current circumstances and economy I could really use some cash. I am setting the reserve insanely low!!!! This is an insane deal, a chance for investment, a chance of a lifetime. (you know what they say about a deal being to good to be true, well economy is making this deal work in your favor due to the fact I could really use the cash. I need this car to sell, the reserve is set to make this a reality for a collector, you couldnt buy a new crate engine for the reserve price!)I have over 50 pics available, if there is a certain area or item you would like to view on the Plymouth, please email me. I will do my best to get a pic out to you ASAP. I will try to answer all questions ASAP. Below is some fun and technical information from press release, when car was released in 1949. I have also included referenced Nascar history regarding the Plymouth. If you win her please do not turn her in to a V8 Hot rod, she is all original and a work of art. If you are wanting a vintage antique classic car that has all the nostalgia, and looks as it did in 1949, No modifications all original right down to the hubcaps, then this is the car….unbelievable low reserve, pick up this investment collector car please, I can not tell you how much you would be helping me. I will help with delivery to a local port for international sale, and will also allow free storage until pick up is made. Please check out my feedback. I hope you enjoyed all the history and technical information I included with my listing. Highlights of the 1949 Plymouth P-18 You are looking at the 1949 Plymouth P-18 Special Deluxe Sedan.Chrysler Corporation entered its silver anniversary year with a $90 million dollar investment to bring the new 1949 line up to Market. The conservative styling was known as “Keller three box school of styling” one box piled on top of two boxes laid end to end.“The American Motorist is tired of having his hat knocked off every time he gets in and out of a car” wrote Wayne Wittaker in the April issue of Popular Mechanics, before quoting Keller directly: “As far as design goes we wanted to build an outstanding car, a car that is easy to get in and out of , that is easy to garage, to handle in traffic or when parking. The outsides of our new cars are actually sculpted around conditions prescribed for the inside”. When it came to automobile design, Keller was a conservative to a fault. “ A car shouldn’t knock your hat off-or your eyes out either,” he is quoted saying “ nor should the hood be so low you can piss over it” The 1949 Plymouth was truly a car Keller could Love. The 1949 P-18 Deluxe was built in two body styles, a two door notchback club coupe, and a four door sedan. The P-18 Special Deluxe with 118-1/2 inch wheel base enjoyed more external bright work and considerably more luxurious interiors.A seam molding running the length of the hood was only partially covered by a redesigned and all metal May Flower sailing ship.Tail lamps sat high atop the rear fender and formed a slight fin in their housing, which helped conceal the fender to body seam. For the first time the tail lamp lenses were plastic. The separate brake light was centrally located on the deck lid, just above the trunk handle, and below the licenses plate. A indentation in the deck lid was provided for the licenses plate and bracket with heavy medallion containing the word “Plymouth” and an enameled (Special Deluxe Only) Plymouth crest mounted directly above the Plate.Body side moldings on all models included a spear running from the Headlamps to the trailing edge of the front fender; Special Deluxe models had a chrome gravel shield on the leading edge of the rear fenders as well.Window Mechanisms were redesigned to permit full up and down travel in one and half turns of the window handle. Trivial as it may sound, the highly geared windows meant the driver didn’t have to take his hands from the wheel as long to roll down the window as on other cars.Front seat cushions were increased 5 inches, and rear cushions 6 inches in width, with legroom in the rear seat increased to 42-1/2inches. · The steering ratio 18:2:1. · Rear axle ratio 3.9. · Gas tank Capacity 17 gallons · Engine Displacement 217 cid 97 HP! · Compression ratio 7:0:1 · Fully automatic electric choke Nascar Race History of the Plymouth Typically considered an underpowered car, the 1949 Plymouth held its own against competition. A tobacco Farmer “Nascar driver” Lee Petty was asked how he brought the underpowered Plymouths to 2nd place in 1954 season final points championship. Lee Petty said “ I could go through the turns flat out and when an Olds was trying to dig of the curve, I had a running start on him, I ran a 4:78:1 rear axle, lower then any of the other boys were using. And that little motor was doing full revs all the time. I found the Chrysler Imperial springs, shocks, wheels, etc., fit perfect beneath the Plymouth. The Plymouth wouldn’t do but 92mph wide open, But I tuned it so the car ran top speed lap after lap. The other boys blew tires, or ran hot, and then I moved in.Petty managed to put the little Plymouth among the first three cars in nineteen consecutive races to the chagrin of other drivers who charged he was running a souped-up motor. The engine was torn down fifteen times during the nineteen race stretch and found to be bone stock each time. From 1949-1952 Plymouth was ranked number three in stock car wins across the country.
