Vehicle Detail

1959 MERCEDES BENZ 300D Mechanical Fuel Injection, Automatic Transmission, Restored in the early 1990's, Well Maintained, Recently Refurbished, Rare Adenauer Click here to view all of the photos. Please read the description and ask questions before bidding or buying. Thank you! The Mercedes 300 series was the top of the line for post-war cars in the 50's and 60's. The cars were big, powerful and packed with advanced features. Most often, the cars were used as limousines or transportation for heads of state. From 1957 to 1962 only around 2,100 Mercedes 300D sedans were built! That makes this a very rare and desireable car for any collector. This 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300D was restored in the early 1990's in Southern California and had the hardtop removed to simulate a convertible appearance. The frames for the convertibles and sedans were identical so no chassis modifications were necessary to maintain rigidity and strength. The pillarless windows and trim are still in place. The car features its original drivetrain, a 2996cc inline six cylinder engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and a 3-speed automatic transmission. Recent refurbishment includes: Rebuilding entire mechanical fuel injection system Rear axle bearings and seals Transmission service Radiator service Brake service The car is fun to drive and attracts attention everywhere. The leather and wood interior is in good condition and is very comfortable. All of the lights and gauges work as they should. The only thing that isn't working is the clock. The paint is in good condition with only a few minor blemishes. Everything of note can be seen in the complete set of photos. I also have a parts car that I purchased intending to use the top to make this car back into a sedan. The parts car is visible in the last few pictures here. If you purchase this car and are interested in the parts car, I will sell it to you for a reasonable price. On Jan-19-13 at 07:11:38 PST, seller added the following information: There is no soft top. The car is as it appears in the photos. This Mercedes drives nicely. It "floats" along like most heavy cars from the 50's. There's no power steering, but the steering gear reduction and large steering wheel make it a dream to turn, even when sitting still. The car has been driven regularly around town to cruise-ins and dinner dates. The ride is smooth and the engine and transmission power the car smoothly.
