Vehicle Detail

HISTORY Mercedes-Benz North America documented this 250Coupe sold originally 2/1/71 by Van Winkle Motor Company Mercedes-Benz, Dallas TX. MBNA would not reveal first owner. 2nd owner purchased 1/19/84 from Park Place Mercedes-Benz, Lincoln NE. He kept for 26 years ( I purchased in 2010) and his history is well documented by a huge file of receipts that'll take you many hours to review. A skilled machinist (owned a specialty manufacturing company) this 250C was his hobby. Documents reveal extensive and adept machine work, He kept a journal, and documented when it was put away for the winter, and when it came out in the springtime. Quite the find. The Nardi stainless steel & wood steering wheel was a period correct upgrade for pre-airbag Mercedes. The original Becker radio is gone, replaced with a period correct cassette player (& of course the manual with it). I have an original Becker Europa if you'd want it. I purchased from 2nd owner's dealer-agent July 2010 and trailered (way too nice to drive) home. Clear Colorado title. CONDITION You see it as I found it. From the condition of the car the miles are very believable.... Not a show car, but way too good to be a daily driver. The top of the dash isn't cracked anywhere & that's really rare. Some of the clear lacquer has very minor peeling off the veneer on the edges. The gages all work, the clock works, the heater controls are smooth and operate perfectly, power windows all work. Every exterior lamp works and the distinctive Coupe fog lamps haven't been removed. The A/C was converted to R134 and blows ice cold, but has an intermittent main switch that I should take an hour and change someday. That non original radio works but power antenna mast needs a cable. Paint is great, tires are great, chrome is great, all the glass is great. headliner is perfect. And it has those wonderful pre-'74 small steel bumpers, not the awful US-mandated huge ugly bumpers of the later 280Cs. Also has an original sales brochure. There is NO evidence of rust anywhere... especially common behind the headlights & behind the rockers. Bring your bondo magnet... this car's all there. The floors are solid. The original black padding under the rugs is solid and clean. There was a receipt for some minor paintwork completed by a new-car dealership in his small town, but nothing glaring... very well done. No holes drilled, no modifications, even the painted hubcaps are perfect. The unused spare might be original, still has its Michelin tag on the tread. The floor under the trunk rubber mat is solid. Carbs are in great tune, starts right up, doesn't miss a beat. Drives well, no drama, no smoke. Take it anywhere with no concerns. It's a wonderful cruiser; better on back roads and secondary highways. Gets way too much attention when you go to the gas station or the store, you just can't get away without showing the car to someone. I had a gent interested here in Colorado, but he decided it was just way too nice for him... so now it's on Ebay. Not too much else to know about my ownership... it sits in an insulated windowless steel building in dry rust free Colorado with battery disconnected to save the clock. Weather permitting, it'll run errands. So it's your turn to take care of a nice old Mercedes owned by a couple of old guys in it's history. You'd be the 3rd documented owner, with the entire file plus a box of spare misc. stuff comes with it. Last month I sold my 22,500 mile '96 GMC Z71 pickup (I bought new) on Ebay; this is just another one I don't drive. There are more cars left, so no trades. You'll find 250 Coupes from a few hundred bucks for an awful one on any Craigslist, to an amazing blue 250C in San Diego asking well over $100k (on HMN.com). This one doesn't need a fortune spent on it making it reliable or nice enough for weekend car shows. You could spend maybe $500 on it if you feel the need to tinker... power antenna mast, a/c master switch, and maybe a couple minor paintless dent repairs that I've noticed need to be done. Otherwise, just come get in it and drive it home. You can trust it. Insurance from Hagerty is cheap, $237/yr for full coverage at stated value. In Colorado it is emissions exempt, and collector car plates are good for 5 years at a time. The plates stay with the seller in Colorado, but we can go to the DMV and get you a temporary to drive home on. PAYMENT Close thru my bank with your verifiable certified funds. Easy. Paypal for the deposit, but not for the balance. When my bank says ok, we're good. You know the rest... no cashiers checks, no wire funds, no currency in a brown bag, TRANSPORTATION: Accelerated Transport is based about 15 miles from here in Parker Colorado. They arrange shipment almost anywhere. That's your expense, you can trust them. WARRANTY: Sold As-Is, with no warranty. Come see it... it's quite an amazing 42 year old Mercedes Coupe. Feel free to e-mail questions or make arrangements to see this car. It's a safe assumption if you read this entire page, you know these rare Coupes. Thank you.
