"UP FOR AUCTION IS ONE OF THE CLEANEST UNMOLESTED 1964 THUNDERBIRD YOU WILL EVERY FIND" SOME HISTORY ON THE 64 T-BIRD The fourth generation 1964-1966 Thunderbird models had a more powerful look which the stylists obtained by lengthening the hood and shortening the roof lines. There is also a cleaner, stronger rear, achieved with two of the biggest tail/turn/stop lamps ever seen on an automobile. The 1964 Thunderbird was restyled in favor of a more squared-off appearance, which was mostly evident when viewing the car side or rear. hinting at its roots in the previous generation Thunderbird that it evolved from, the new model retained a similar grille design with dual headlights and a 113.2 inch wheelbase. The 1964 Thunderbird roofline retained the formal air flow of the past, but, taking advantage of a low-pressure area behind the backlight, now featured Silent-Flow, the first windows closed, flow-through ventilation system on an American car. With a console level, the driver could actuate a vacuum servo that opened a vent under the rear window. Mercedes introduced this process in 1954 on their 300SL Gullwing Coupe. But it was the 1964 Thunderbird that introduced an elegant, functional design and was soon widely imitated. The 300 horsepower 390 cu in FE V-8 was the standard engine with a 3 speed automatic transmission. The models available were hardtop, convertible and landau versions.
