Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a late 1962 Ford Falcon Futura with the Thunderbird style roof. This was a design change for the late 1962 Futura and is designated by the body code "62C". While the 1962 Futura is already fairly rare when compared to the standard Falcon, those with the Thunderbird roof are very scarce. When you then consider this Falcon is a true survivor it becomes clear this is a very special vehicle. This Falcon appears to wear its original paint, which is in remarkable condition considering its age. There are a few chips that have been touched up over the years, but I cannot find any evidence of a single panel being repainted. There is some cracking in the paint around the taillights, which is shown in the pictures. The paint has worn thin in areas that would be consistent with vehicle use, but this just adds to my belief this is the original paint. This Futura looks more like a car that has been around 5 years, than one that has been around 50+ years. There is no evidence that the car has ever been in an accident. The interior is in remarkable condition with no signs of abuse. Even the original cardboard heater plenum looks like it came off the line just a few years ago. This car is equipped with Rotunda seat belts in the front, with the correct colors to match the interior. The car still has the original trunk mat. This car is originally from Northern California, and I have an old registration card for the vehicle from Mill Valley, CA dating back to 1972. Prior to my ownership it spent the last several decades in Arizona. There is not a spec of rust that I can find anywhere on this vehicle and from talking with prior owners it has always been garage kept. This Falcon is mechanically in VERY original condition. This falcon still has an ORIGINAL yellow top ignition coil, and correct brown Bakelite starter solenoid. The battery cables were replaced with concours correct reproductions, but the solenoid to starter cable is the original. At the last oil change a NOS Autolite oil filter was used. The battery is a concours acceptable replacement from antique auto batteries. The original wiring harness is completely in tact and in excellent condition. The windshield washer system is also completely intact and undamaged. Even the brake master cylinder has the original copper lid. The fuel pump was recently replaced with a NOS correct AC pump with glass sediment bowl. The fuel filter was replaced with a correct NOS Autolite filter. The radiator hoses have been replaced with concours reproductions and NOS period correct hose clamps. The valve cover air breather was also replaced with a NOS period correct Autolite service part. The spark plugs are the correct Autolite BF82s with “star logo” and ORIGINAL Autolite radio resistance “brown boot” wires. This Falcon even has the original radiator complete with original cooling lines for the Fordomatic transmission. The engine has NOT been cleaned. The oil pan is dent free and shows no signs of damage. The transmission is the original 2-speed Fordomatic. The original cooling lines are intact and connected to the factory radiator. The car has all of the original glass with the exception of the windshield. I do have a NOS early style Carlite replacement windshield and correct NOS FoMoCo weather stripping that will be made available to the winning bidder. The winning bidder will also be given a flannel Car Craft brand cover. At shows this car is routinely mistaken for a restored Falcon, and people are always blown away that it is an original example. This car has enjoyed a long life with owners who have shown it great care. The only damage to the car worth mentioning is to the very tip of the trim on the driver side. Fortunately I have this piece of trim NOS and still in what is left of the original packaging. I have chosen not to install it, but it will come with the car so the next owners can decide for themselves. The grille in in excellent condition, and the car still has the FoMoCo script Tung-Sol headlight bulbs. The radio only works occasionally. I have been hesitant to remove it for fear of damaging anything. I do have a fully serviced spare "22BD" radio that will be available for separate purchase should the buyer want it. Once again I have been hesitant to mess with the vehicles originality. Everything else electrical related on the car works great including the interior lights, dual tone horns, heater motor, etc. Even the original vacuum powered windshield wipers works great! This Futura has the correct 1956 yellow and black California plates with the correct "W" designation consistent for their use in 1962 and the original registration sticker. This was the last year California used the 56' plates before switching to the black and yellow plates for 1963. The plates are registered for use under the California YOM program. This 1962 Falcon Futura holds a clean and clear California title and is registered in my name. I have a large collection of mechanical NOS parts that the next owner might find useful in maintaining its originality and for future maintenance. These parts will ONLY be made available after the vehicle sells, and will be sold in a separate auction(s). The winning bidder will have the option to purchase these parts individually or as a collection prior to them being listed. A complete list can be emailed to all who are interested in reviewing what I have. Overall this is probably one of the nicest examples of an untouched original early Falcon Futura still in existence. The timing needs some adjustment, and it will need to have the transmission pan and rear end gaskets replaced in the near future. The vehicle does not get driven as much as it deserves, and they are drying out. I can replace both of these items before shipping or pick up at the buyers request. VEHICLE SHIPPING IS AVAILABLE PLEASE LOOK OVER THE PICTURES AND ASK QUESTIONS. THIS VEHICLE IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. THIS VEHICLE IS ALSO AVAILABLE FOR SALE LOCALLY.
