Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE My mother-in-law passed away last year and my father-in-law’s health has been up and down. He needed a “little pick me up.” He wanted a new car after renting a Nissan Altima when the Lincoln was due for new plugs and coils. He has never owned a brand new car and wanted the Altima. That’s a story in itself. Now this Lincoln is taking space in the carport and he’s paying insurance. If you know anything about retired people it’s their ability to spend countless resources reducing their monthly expenses. He decided it’s time to sell the car. Here we go.... This is a true “Sun City” type vehicle sale. It was originally titled in Arizona and has been in the snow/salt free “Valley of the Sun” ever since. Although my father-in-law is not the original owner I believe he bought it in early 2001 with less than 13,000 miles. He was retired when he bought it and literally drove it to church, bible study, the dollar stores, the bank, his internist’s office and every summer, a trip “home” to Morro Bay, California. It’s a beautiful car, it’s been well maintained and for a twelve-year-old daily driver, the mileage is ridiculously low. As you can see from the pictures, the tires have about 75% of their tread left and are very nice Michelin Symmetry’s. The air-conditioning is cold, it runs great and it now has new plugs, coils and valve cover gaskets. The interior is in excellent shape and neither he nor his wife smoked. No dash cracks and he used a dash mat. The windshield is excellent. The radio works great; I know this because my dogs bark when he pulls in the driveway, they don’t like Rush Limbaugh anymore than I do, especially at high volume. It gets great mileage for that era V8. My wife and I took it to IKEA and we got over 24 MPG round trip. Pretty remarkable. It’s front wheel drive, which I didn’t know until I popped the hood. It occurred to me why I saw so many of these in Illinois and New York on business trips, they must do very well in the rougher weather. The CarFax is perfect. I will scan it and add the image.Things I think someone would want to know before buying his car. The faux convertible top (Landau Roof was the term the auto industry coined) is missing a trim piece across the back window between the trunk and the window. You can see it in the pictures. I have no idea where it is but my sense is it is somewhere between Phoenix and Morro Bay. It’s probably not worth hunting a replacement down. My father-in-law drives like Mr. Magoo. He apparently has performed a couple of parking lot bumper tests because two corners of the car appear to have been scratched. You can see this in the pictures. Scarier was his response when I asked him how those happened. “How what happened?” he said. It has a distinct groan when you first start the car. It sounds like vacuum system in the air-conditioning duct/defrost pumping up. Everything works and it only does it for about ten seconds. I don’t think he even noticed. It’s hard to hear over “The Zen of Tony Bennett.” The cigarette lighter is missing. I suspect it was lost when he plugged in his 2,000 watt spotlight, “Just in case….” The remote key fob is in rough shape. I think it has been left in the sun too many times. You can buy those online, I have been using the key. As you can see, he loved the car. He has all the oil change receipts, tire rotations, etc. It runs as it should, no disappointments. I am going to start the listing very low with hopes someone jumps on this for a holiday gift. It would make a very special gift for someone looking for a solid car with low mileage and is still sharp looking. If you live in Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah or New Mexico, our son will deliver the car for $300, weather permitting.
