Vehicle Detail

Very nice, original 1970 Mercedes Benz W108 series sedan. This is a solid, unrestored 280 S E Model, and a very rare European model, with 140K kilometers ( = 85K miles approximately). This classic Mercedes had been in dry storage for about 15 yrs. and was part of a family Estate in Los Altos Hills, nortwest of San Jose. The car was put back on the road after a long hibernation in November of 2011, and has been an ocassional driver ever since. I had planned to do a ground-up restoration, but I have decided to complete some home renovations instead, thus the Mercedes has taken a back seat. For being fourty-two years young, it looks great! And the best part, a California rust-free Mercedes Benz. The engine is the reliable 2.8L straight six-cylinder motor, with original Fuel Injection. The car starts immediately and without hesitation, idles and runs very well. It maintains full oil pressure and normal water temp at around 175 steadily. The transmission shifts well and precise into all gears, as all the W108s usually do. No engine noises, rattles or overheating. Being a European model, it did not come with the usual Power ammenities we are used to in the american market. Thus, it is a no-sunroof, manual windows, no A/C 280Se, but it does have 4wheel Power disc brakes, Power steering, and the best part, the beautiful one-piece European headlights and amber-toned tailights. The speedometer is still the original unit which reads in KM. BOTH the factory odometer and the trip-meter work fine. The indicator for P R D N L does not. Blower, heater/ defroster work fine. The wipers work fine at both speeds. Even the inside courtesy dome lights AND inside-trunk light work! The original MBZ horn works, as well as all door locks and window cranks. Fairly new whitewall tires were installed about six months ago, along with a new battery. The interior is in rather remarkable condition considering the age of the car. There are a few little snags on the bottoms, as pictured. The rest of the car is VERY clean, such as all door panels, its headliner, rear seat ( including the top of the backrest), both headrests and its carpeting. It has NEVER been smoked in. The pictures do not do the car justice. The exterior still shines nicely after all these years, for a 42-year old finish! The top of one fender and a lower panel of the right front door have been resprayed before, a long time ago, as the clear has crackled slightly ( the old original finish actually has held up better!), but the car still presents very well for its age. Like most of us, it shows a few signs of the passing of time, but still keeps up with traffic fine. Overall, a very clean, NON SMOKER California Mercedes Benz 280SE in unrestored condition, and a very rare European model. It is not a concours car, but a Mercedes that you will have fun driving around and still turn heads! Super classy, with nice whitewalls and the beautiful Euro lights make it stand apart. It is currently registered and insured in California, until 2013. It has a CLEAR California title. This classic Mercedes Benz is being offered with a reasonable opening bid ( for the serious bidders), and NO RESERVE. I reserve the right to end this listing early at anytime, should an outside offer or a BUY-IT-NOW offer to purchase present itself, prior to the end of the listing.
