Vehicle Detail
1970 GMC 1500 (K10) 1/2 Ton 4x4 350 4-speed Lifted, new tires and clutch, wood bed! VIN: KE134SZ60850. Miles: 32,000 (most likely 132,000). For sale is a very nice, driver quality, 1970 GMC 1500 ½ 4x4 with a numbers matching 350 CID engine and 4-speed manual transmission. Built in December of 1969 in the St. Louis, MO plant. It has 32’’ tires, aluminum rims, a wood bed of oak, new clutch, and many other improvements. I purchased this truck to tow my mud truck which is also a 1970 4x4 (a Chevy). The GMC was a great idea, and tows the trailer and truck without issue, but I just want something a bit more modern for those conveniences like cup holders and fuel-injection. This is a good 10-foot, driver quality truck with a LOT of parts and detail work in it. I was building it for endurance and durability so the parts in it are not junk. This is not a show truck. If you are interested… read on: First of all, a note on rust: There is no such thing as a rust-free, 42 year old, truck. Anyone who tells you that is either lying or un-educated, and is trying to sell you something. This truck has been repaired many times in its life and most of those repairs seem to have been done well. Any repairs that I have done have been done as right as I can with the idea of the truck lasting a LONG time. Onward: Exterior: -The truck is currently a Blue Metallic base/clear. This is not its first, second, or last paint job. It has been two different metallic blues, a metallic black, and a metallic maroon. Original color appears to be maroon from the paint left on the firewall and interior. The paint is amateur quality and looks ok from 10 feet away. -The body has been repaired in many places. Doors and other sheet metal appear to be original. It could use a new tailgate, but the one that is there works correctly. It could use a new grill. Fender wells are ok. Bed wheel wells are ok. 4’’ lift with rear blocks and front suspension. All adjustments for the lift kit appear to have been done professionally with attention to detail. -Wood Bed. Made of Kiln dried, old-growth, oak with 4 layers of helmsman on it. All hardware is stainless steel including the slats. Everything under the bed was removed, repaired, and coated with POR15. The cross sills were replaced with brand new ones. This is the highlight of this truck. It is QUITE beautiful and functional. The bed walls need to be re-sprayed (was a plan for the spring). -New bumper and Reese hitch. Brand new. Hitch from NAPA, bumper from a custom manufacturer. If you see a chrome bumper in any of the pictures, that has been replaced. Mounted with a professional bracket kit. Wired for 4-wire trailer lights. -Underbody Coated. The entire underbody of this truck, except under the transmission and in the engine compartment, has been wire brushed and coated with POR15 rust proofing paint. Gloss Black. It looks nice, is extremely tough, and cleans up with ease. This sort of undercoating is a long job that is very difficult and time intensive. -Doors have new hinge pins and have been aligned as best they can be. Weather strip is in good shape. -All glass is good (amazing for this year of truck). Rear cab glass has a sliding window. -Lights, wipers, hood, windows all operate correctly. Drivetrain: -Original 350 CID GMC truck engine with 4bbl manifold and an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb with vacuum secondaries and an electric choke. Starts, runs, and drives well. Does not leak a significant amount of oil. Does not burn a significant amount of oil. This is one of the few of these engines that does not appear to leak from the rear main seal. Block is a 3900010. 4 bolt main with 2 piece seal. Intake matches. Upgraded to HEI distributor. Good radiator. Spins to 5000 RPM with no complaints. This motor has definitely been rebuilt at some time. -New Plugs, new wires, new belts, new cap, new rotor. Timed. Carb adjusted. Antifreeze and oil recent changed. -Block heater. -4 speed manual transmission with creeper 1st gear. BRAND NEW CLUTCH. Heavy duty. Trans shifts fine with a B&M T-handle on the shifter. - Cast Iron Manifolds. Dual Exhaust with Glass Packs and tips. Sounds great but doesn’t attract the cops. Emissions exempt in most states. -4x4 system works as designed. Hubs appear to have been upgraded at some point. -3.08, 12-bolt GMC rear differential. Matching front differential. Original transfer case. -Brand new 32’’ tires. Less than 2000 miles on them. Front end alignment and balance performed at install. -Brakes are 4 wheel manual drum and stop the truck with no issues. -Power steering. Good alternator. Brand new battery with 650 CCA. -New Monroe Sensa-trac Shocks. Sits nice and level with a 2600lb trailer and 4400lb truck attached. Interior: -Doors and dash painted to match truck. -Seat is covered and needs to be upholstered if you want to remove the cover. -Black interior and dash pad sourced from LMC truck. New Carpet. Floor mats. -Gauges work but fuel gauges is picky. Aftermarket tach. -Custom Autosound radio and MP3 player fit to the original post style installation. -Heat and blower work. -Not as rattle-y as most trucks of this era. -Clean and nice inside. I’m picky about my vehicles and it shows in their resale value and the complements of those who purchase them. -Has Shoulder Seat Belts from an 80’s truck. Big safety upgrade from the original. -Power Steering, manual brakes, manual clutch, manual windows, sliding rear window, window vents, floor vents. Heater and Defroster. Notes: -What does this truck need to be a driver? Nothing. -To be a show truck? Lots of work. -What needs to be done otherwise? Detail work to your satisfaction. -Is it drivable? Yes. I drive it every day. -Will I accept trades? Yes, depending on what it is. -Will I deliver? Yes, but I will be paid well to deliver it. Better hire a shipping company. I know some good ones. Pictures: Lead picture is from the car show where it placed 2nd in the 4x4 class. Underhood picture is a bit dirty, but representative. Bed picture is after it rained. The beading shows how well it is waxed. Other pictures are detail. This is a good classic truck. It does what it should and does really well for its era and technology. These things are incredible in four wheel drive. They will nearly climb walls. This truck is not perfect nor is it junk. Treat it well and it will do the same. I have a good reputation on ebay and I have sold vehicles before. There is a deposit to cover my costs to relist and start over. Please ask ANY questions before bidding. There is a reserve. If you want to know what it is, email me. Once you have paid for it, I will do whatever you want me to with it, but I will only store it for a week… in the open. Vehicle is sold as-is. No warranties are expressed or implied. It is a 40 year old truck so you will be working on it! Good luck and happy bidding.
