For auction is a used 2006 Mercedes Benz SLK280 model. In bright silver with a black interior, this vehicle is in great shape and has been professionally maintained for the last four years of ownership. The mileage is higher on this vehicle but to look at it or drive it you would not think so. The motor and 7-speed automatic transmission are sharp, responsive and have no issues whatsoever. Whoever owned the vehicle before my Wife obviously used it for freeway driving almost exclusively as there are no wear marks on the inside or outside suggesting a lot of stop-start traffic. The motor is a 3.0 liter V6 and is smooth and responsive. This vehicle is pretty amazing as it's surprisingly fast, I guess becuase it's so light, but can get easily over 30mpg on the freeway. Yes - 30mpg out of a sportscar! I wish my car did that well on gas. . . . The transmission is a 7-speed automatic with both a sport mode and a manual shifting mode too. It is smooth and shifts well - it has never had any issues and runs great. The hardtop convertible part of this car is awesome. A full hardtop when it's up makes for no wind noise that you would usually get with a convertible. At the push of a button the entire roof electrically retracts, the trunk lifts up in reverse (from the middle of the car) and the entire roof slides away into the trunk. This mechanism is typically German and is incredibly well engineered. It always attracts attention when you put the roof up or down as it's pretty impressive to watch an only takes about 15 seconds (very helpful for when for not getting rained on at a stoplight). The trunk on this car is massive - not what you'd expect from a small 2 seater sports car. Even when the roof is stowed away you still have decent usable room for the weekly grocery shop, etc. This model has the ever important wind-screen device behind the rollover bars on the seats. This makes a massive difference when the roof is down as this little mesh screen creates a calming effect on the wind and therefore prevents you from being blown-away when the roof is down. It works very well indeed and you can even have a semi-good conversation on the bluetooth phone system on the freeway with the roof down! Whoever bought this new also opted for the Neckscarf Warming System too which is a very neat touch. When you've got the roof down on one of those beautiful spring or fall days where the temperature isn't quite good enough for doing so - we've all done it :-) This system blows hot air from the neck area, behind your head, from the seat itself. This, coupled with the heated seat option allows you to be nice and toasty on those type days. It works very well! The interior is in absolutely remarkable shape, no wear or age indicators anywhere. The black seats and dash are as bright and non-scuffed as when it was new. Everything works and there are some toys to play with too. The car has cruise, Xenon headlamps, heated seats, dual zone climate control, an aftermarket JVC double-size stereo system that has cd player, radio, siruis-ready interface, direct iPod control, aux interface, bluetooth for iPod control and telephone over the speakers. It is very cool to be able to play Pandora over the stereo in the car without having to take the iPhone out of your pocket or purse! Of course, if the phone should ring - the music will be paused and the call takes place over the stereo system. The cabin microphone is clear and the system works very well - a great upgrade over the limited standard Mercedes interfaces. The car has two cup holders up front, 2 deep storage bins in the middle of the seats, one further storage bin between the seats on the vertical and also some hidden storage compartments behind the seats that you can get to by sliding the seats forward. They have provided ample interior space for this car and my Wife has never felt cramped or that it's too small. The exterior is in great shape. The tires are all good with well over 50% left on each, the wheels have no curb rash and are clean and true. The paint is in excellent shape and does have the usual rock-chips and wear that you'd associate with a used vehicle. As you can see from the pictures the paint still 'pops' and it always gets positive comments and attracts attention wherever it goes. If you look at the Autocheck report attached free to this listing you'll see some accidents reported. This is unfortunate as these were generated automatically from a few semi-recent incidents on the freeway. Once, a driver hit my Wife from the rear requiring a new bumper. Twice my Wife ran over a blown-out truck tire on the freeway and had a new front bumper - it turns out that if you claim under your insurance for something like this it goes on your record, and the cars, as an at-fault accident! We are not fond of the truckers who don't ensure their tires are roadworthy before setting out and only find out they are not when they blow out !!! So this means the car has got new front and rear bumpers that were painted and installed professionally within the last 6 months. I have written this part for full disclosure but this in no way makes the car look worse, better in fact as it all looks nice and new at the front and back. The front bumper has the usual parking-lot rash underneath where you pull up to a parking curb - this is a low car. You can't see this unless you get down underneath and look.
