Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a very nice super clean, garage-kept 1958 Chevrolet Apache pick up truck, VIN 3A58L104189. This truck was born at the Los Angeles plant and has spent its entire life in California until I purchased it recently and brought it to NY. Unfortunately since procuring the vehicle, Ive had some issues come up in my life and I can no longer hold on to her. So my loss can become your gain. I want to be completely transparent regarding the condition of the vehicle so you can bid with confidence. As you can see from all the pictures the truck is gorgeous and commands attention everywhere it goes. People have actually stopped in front of my house and walked into my driveway to look at the truck and say "Hey What year is that?! Its beautiful! " The truck underwent a restoration about 5 years ago. The paint is very nice and has a nice shine to it, refer to the pictures. I tried to include as many angles as possible so you can get a sense of the paint. I recently saw a truck that sold for 20K and the paint on this truck is nicer, but then again, paint is a subjective topic. There is a small chip and a scratch in the passenger side front fender that shows clearly in the pictures, and there is a small crack in the drivers side rocker (see pictures). The rear clip is totally solid; the bedsides are free of any dents (rare) and the front and rear tailgate are in above-average condition. The driver side bedside is slightly bent out by about an inch near the front (by the step). The truck has a piece of plywood for a bed and the bedsides, although in excellent condition, were sprayed with some sort of bedliner and then hit with a spatter-type paint. Again, see the pics. The front fenders are in nice shape, the lower sections where they meet the rocker are solid with no rot (including the lower fender braces). This is rare to see (especially on the east coast!) and good news. Both doors are in above-average shape, with decent gaps, but could use some adjustment to make them perfect.. The hood is beautiful and perhaps what I love most about these 59-59 four-eyed trucks, but needs the hinge springs installed (included). Truck has nice chrome (but not brand new) repro front and rear bumpers. Notice the hood emblem and fender spears have been shaved, which gives the truck a bit of a tougher look. Grill is original with a nice patina and no damage. Much of the undercarriage was cleaned and undercoated. The cab floors, toe boards and inner kick panels are solid, as you would expect from a California truck. The only rot is in the lower hinge pillars on both sides. Otherwise, it remarkably solid, with above average lines and gaps for a truck this age. The truck hangs together well and has a nice original stance thanks to the completely original suspension. No Camaro or Mustang suspension here. Its totally original. Adding to the old school mojo are the wide whites with color matched 6 lug rims. The tires are bias ply and still have decent tread on them. It is missing the left front shock since the upper mount is broken. This is typical for this year due to a metalurgical flaw in the upper mount. Its an easy fix for someone to fab up a new mount. I would use 3/16" steel. Windshield is new as is the rubber weathertripping for it. Note the truck came originally with the Deluxe cab trim which is presently on the drivers side door only. Reproduction trim is available from a number of sources online. The truck has a rebuilt 305 V8 and turbo 350 transmission. The previous owner was not able to provide how many miles are on the motor and tranny. The motor runs well and the tranny shifts nicely. The motor was recently tuned up and a new thermostat was installed. The vehicle has a new battery and the charging system (alternator) works well. Starter is also brand new so the truck starts every time and is dependable. True duals with new hush thrush mufflers and tail pipes. Motor has a nice growl and actually has some nice pull to it as well. Since it has the original gears in the rear, it can be tough to keep the wheels from spinning, especially with the bias plys. GIven the original gears with the 3-speed TH 350, this is not one for the highway! Brakes are fine, but included in the auction is a complete brake system still in boxes, which includes the master cylinder, all 4 wheel cylinders, drums and pads all around, including the spring and adjuster kit to do all 4 wheels. All these parts are correct for the truck and bought from Classic Parts. Also just installed a new emergency brake cable. The interior is very clean and done in the classic (but not original) red with white pleats. New rubber mat installed. Again, the floors are rot free and very solid. Original steering wheel has the normal cracks in it, which dont show up so well in the pics. When it was put back together after the resto, they did not hook up the gauges in the dash cluster (which is in very nice shape) so the new owner will need to take care of this. The speedo works, but its not hooked up. Also the horn, directional lights and wipers are also not hooked up. What is hooked up and working are the headlights (low and hi beams), the parking lights, and the tail lights (including the brake lights). Other than that, the electrical wiring needs some attention and frankly I would spend the 200 bucks and re-wire the whole truck. New window glass and regulator has been installed in the driver side door. Both doors need the normal weatherstripping, door channels, etc. and as such, they rattle when driving the truck. Again, some relatively cheap items and you can easily take care of this. Passenger side door could also use new mechanisms for the window and door latch; they work but the points of attachment for the handles are worn. Also the dash has the obligatory work on the radio area where some idiot cut the dash to fit an aftermarket radio. Truck was originally a heat delete, but I have a complete deluxe heater in a box and this will go to the new owner. I also have an original am radio (not sure if it works but its correct) that will go with the truck. I also have a bunch of other assorted parts that I will give to the new owner (door weatherstripping, brand new door hinges for one side, directional switch parts, extra gauge cluster, wipers arms, shop manual, owners manual, other small items). Many of the issues for which I have gone out of my way to describe are inherent to many of these old trucks and therefore most people dont talk about them and then you wind up disappointed when you recieve the truck. WHen these trucks are restored and perfect, they command 25-30K, and in some cases more, particularly with a V8. I can tell you my reserve is a fraction of this. The beauty of truck is that it is already very attractive, a turnkey driver, is largely rot free and you can enjoy it while you do the things it needs which I have described. All this with a more modern drivetrain to provide reliable service. I urge anyone who desires to do so to come an personally inspect the truck. If that is not reasonable, you can always call me at 203-417-6048 to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. I live in Westchcester County NY and I can tell you these trucks are not common here, so it is for sale locally and generating a fair amount of interest. As such, I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time. And now for all the obligatory ebay legalese.... Ive done my best to describe the vehicle accurately and to the best of my ability, but it is still only my opinion. I welcome inspections but it needs to be done before the auction ends. Vehicle is being offered as-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Actual mileage is unknown. No refunds; all sales are final. I have a clean NY registration that I simply sign over to you; there is no title in NY state on a vehicle this age. Buyer to arrange shipping. My sincere desire is that this vehicle goes to someone who can appreciate it and the value is holds, and will bring it to the level it deserves to be. If you decide to buy it sight unseen, please review all the photos and information above and feel free to call me and ask me anything you want. Do your research, review the pics, call me to discuss when its convenient for you, and bid with confidence.
