Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D turbo California. I'd like to start off by saying that I absolutely love this car, and it will be very difficult for me to let her go. However, with a baby on the way, it is time that I put my money into more responsible places. This car is not perfect, she has been well cared for, and I have many receipts on hand for a lot of the work I have had done on this car, all by professional mechanics. The buyer of this vehicle will want to put a few bucks into her to get her running beautifully once again though. The car is running, and she drives fine, but there is some shaking at idle. I was told that the car needs new motor mounts and a fuel pressure regulator as it doesn't get fuel like it should when your foot isn't on the gas. The car has never killed on me at idle or anything like that, it just shakes. If you are able to work on these cars yourself, or if you know someone who will help you out, this will be a great car for you. If you want to part out this car, you will make some good money, as I have put thousands of dollars into it with new parts, and the engine has low miles on it. Or if you can afford to put some bucks into her, again you will love this car! This car is a pleasure to drive, and it will turn heads! The car shows class and confidence. The body and interior are in great shape for the year. It has the normal dings and scratches that you will find on a 28 year old car. I believe the car was repainted black sometime before I had bought it, and there is no rust on the car, which is rare for this model. I believe the sunroof area has been touched up (repainted) as well. I bought this car in Phoenix, AZ and drove it up to Minnesota about 4 years ago. The body, as well as the underside of the car (very clean) show that this car spent most of it's life in the desert. This car has seen minimal winter driving. There is dark tint on the car, all the way around, other than the windshield; and it looks really sharp! All the power windows and sunroof work. All the speakers have been upgraded, along with the stereo, and in great working condition. The stereo also has the Ipod and USB hookups for your audio/visual needs. There are upgraded conversion headlight and foglight lamps, which make changing bulbs easier and they look much better. The tires have better than 75% tread left on them. The brakes were done within the last year. The blower motor (auxillary fan) has been replaced, and an engine block heater has been installed to improve cold starts. The rear drive axle has been replaced, and the front control arms, so you will enjoy the ride. She cruises nicely at 75mph, and there is no "wind whistling" that you can hear coming through the doors (tightly sealed), which is common on these cars. The interior is in really nice shape, as there are no holes or tears in the seats/leather. The headliner has some holes in it, and there is a dash cover, but it looks like actual dash. This was there when I bought the car, so I'm not sure what the condition is underneath. There are no noticeable stains on any of the carpet within the vehicle, and the wood trim is in decent shape, with only a couple of flaws/chips. As with most of these cars, the tachometer/clock does not work, and the odometer has stopped working. I have added a conservative 30,000 miles to what is showing on the odometer. Other things worth mentioning: There is a power steering fluid leak in the gear box, which I have just been adding fluid to it as needed; but there is a seal kit available on DieselGiant.com for $42.00, which should solve that for you. A full sized spare tire and wheel/rim will be included, and in the trunk of the car. The transmission shifts well, and was serviced in the spring. New glow plugs were installed in the spring/ late winter. A new ignition tumbler was installed by Mercedes-Benz within the last year as well. I have tried to describe the car as best I can, both the good and the bad, please ask questions if you have them and thank you for looking! Please do not bid if you have negative or no feedback. Please do contact me if you are serious about purchasing the car. This car is being sold "As Is" and there are no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied. Thank you for looking, and best of luck with your search. On Nov-13-12 at 21:45:54 PST, seller added the following information: A couple of other notes which have come to mind, and I have received questions on... the A/C is not blowing cold air at this time. I have not had this looked at since I have owned the car, but the previous owner had stated that the compressor went out for the air conditioning. He had included one in the sale when I bought the car, which will also go with the car for the next owner. The original stereo will also be available for the new owner if they prefer the "original" equipment. I also have the standard fog lights (amber), and will also have a more common type of conversion lens for the foglights if you prefer them over the black projector lenses in there currently. I'll take some more pictures if the weather will cooperate here near the end of the week, and I also took a video on my awful phone of the car running at idle so you can see the "shaking". If you would like to see this video, please email me with a question and leave an email address which you would like me to send the short video (it's only about 20 seconds or so). Tire iron and wheel jack will be in the trunk as well. Not sure if this is a major concern for anyone, but I drove the car today and noticed that there is a dash light out. As far as I can tell every other interior/exterior lights are functioning and working properly. Thank you
