Vehicle Detail
This auction is for my Original 1969 Mustang "S" Code 390 Grande Deluxe Hardtop. The drivetrain is original including the 390 engine, C6 automatic transmission, power steering and power disc brakes. There were very few big block equipped mustang Grande's in 1969. 400+ ft. lbs. of torque make these the ultimate sleeper. Who knows how many are left in this original condition. The car will need a complete restoration. I purchased it from a lady locally who had not driven it in 10+ years and it was parked in her back yard for many years. The car was built in San Jose, CA and is equipped with all original drivetrain including the 3.00:1 Conventional axle. The data plate on the door is there as is the dash VIN plate - and they match. The original color was Aztec Aqua with a black vinyl top. I have a clear Nevada title in my name with no fees due. I've uploaded many photos so you can see the condition and feel free to ask questions. I can also e-mail more photos upon request. The good: It's all there and it's original. I have the original A/C equipment including brackets, pulleys and hardware - along with trunk full of parts, trim, etc. The bad: It does have some rust issues, mostly in the lower rear quarter panels. All floors, torque boxes and frame are rust free. It will need everything restored inside and out - but the bones are there. The story: I brought it home, cleaned the interior, fuel tank and lines, rebuilt the carburetor (Motorcraft 4300), installed a new fuel pump and fuel filter, replaced the oil and oil filter, primed the oil pump drive for several minutes, repaired the radiator, and fired it up. It ran quite well considering it had not been run in so long. The transmission and power steering worked very well - no leaks from anything. After 15 minutes of running, white smoke from the exhaust. You know what that means - head gasket (at least). So I shut it down immediately. Yes the coolant level went down and yes there is water (now) in the oil. Nothing let loose and nothing leaks. It cranks over and will start - but I'm not starting it again (no need to do any engine damage). So that's where it's at. I'm sharing all this because I don't like surprises when buying cars, and I'm sure you don't either. I have 2 other engine rebuild projects going on - including my drag car - and don't have the interest in a third. The conclusion: They only made about 800 of these. They are quite rare, and this one is quite restorable -even given the work involved. This is a project, so make sure you're ready for one before you buy. You will need to bring transportation and help get it loaded. I do have an enclosed trailer with a winch, and will consider trailering the car to you within 100 miles for a fee - after I receive full payment. I'm starting this auction out at a very low starting price with no reserve. I will consider a buy it now, but will not end the auction until full payment is made. I have a perfect rating with Ebay and treat people as I like to be treated. I will tell you everything you want to know about this car, so you can have confidence in your purchase. Good luck and thanks for reading my long-winded description. Update #1: The car does have the original, correct big block mustang shock tower reinforcement (undamaged and rust free), original cast exhaust manifolds and H-pipe, and the block VIN does match the car VIN. Update #2: I have had a number of questions from several parties on the condition of the roof, front end and other items. I appreciate all the interest and your questions. I would ask the same. I have a number of photos I can share. Knowing that photos sometimes don't tell the whole story, I will be taking several videos with my iphone highlighting all the good and the bad of the car. It is important to me that any potential buyer knows everything. If you are interested in these, please send me your e-mail. Note that these files will be quite large. Thanks for all the interest and good luck!
