Vehicle Detail
This is a re-listing of the 85 Celica GT-S. Upon awaking, I saw the notification that the car had sold.. Nice. The very next email I opened was from that same "Buyer", saying that being new to eBay, he'd accidentally clicked on the Commitment to Buy button. Now we'll learn if eBay will credit back the seller fees. Apologies to the many who were interested in the earlier ad and who had written that they were working out transportation to their location. On a brighter note, you still have an opportunity to get the car. Last night, the brother of an interested party in Texas came by to see the GT-S. We took it out for a short spin, and when I was parking the car I discovered the Air Conditioner was blowing cool air, so that system is indeed working. For sale AS IS... a good, sound, classic 85 Celica GT-S Coupe, for restoration and economical use... Car is also being advertized for sale elsewhere and locally and viewing is welcome and encouraged. Located 20 minutes north of LAX. A 70 yr. old non-smoking man in the same building here in Santa Monica, CA. wishes to sell his 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S Coupe because he no longer has need for a vehicle. Originally a southern AZ car, traded in @ Marina Del Rey Toyota in Southern Cal., where one of the MDR Toyota mechanics bought it for his son. Turns out, the son couldn't drive a stick. The current owner learned of the car from his MDR mechanic friend and bought it himself and it has proven reliable since. This 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S Coupe is of the third generation and 85 was the last year for Rear Wheel Drive Celicas. The GT-S was the top model, and this one is equipped with a 5-speed Manual transmission. Unlike lesser models, the GT-S (first added to the lineup in 83) included the larger, aluminum-Supra wheels and tires, fender flares, fully independent sports suspension WITH 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, and a sports interior including special seats and a leather-wrapped steering-wheel and gearshift knob. The 22R-E fuel injected engine first introduced in 82, was significantly reworked in 1985 and this version continued for years in later Toyotas. These engines are well known for their durability, decent fuel efficiency and good low to mid range torque. Current mileage is 155,749. It's a good looking car and we have clear title in hand. AZ/CA, RUST FREE car, body is straight with no apparent repairs having been done. All original paint (near as I can tell) is in good shape, with minor parking lot dings and very minor scrapes. There is a small (about the size of a nickel) dent between the trunk lid and rear window. On the passenger side, to the rear of the door, there are shallow scrapes in the clear coat where the basket on the owner's Beach Cruiser bicycle has often been leaned, which look to me as if they MAY buff out. Car has a crack-free dash and deck behind rear seats. The Naugahyde along the tops of the rear seats is cracked to the foam. Front seats are worn and have two types of seat covers, including (faux) sheepskins. Original, Supra wheels look good and straight. Tires have great tread but were manufactured a dozen years ago. Runs, steers and shifts and stops well. Needs power steering hoses and Rack & Pinion due to leaking (less than $200 in parts-I can provide links). Muffler has small hole. Moonroof needs repair..., motor turns but roof not responding. A/C compressor and fan working but needs charge. Window switches work but contacts need cleaning (additional driver's master door switch included). The car was registered in California through October of 2011 and has been stored in the basement garage since, except for recently having been driven several miles to check function. If it's to be registered in California, the cost would be $236 or $245 (two calls to DMV, two prices within $9), plus smog check and certificate, ~$40, plus sales tax. $141 of the registration cost is due to the owner failing to submit the "Planned Non-Operation" paperwork last year. Catalytic converter is in place, looks good and the car has passed California emissions testing, as required, every two years. Two sets of front seat covers: Sun-cracked top of rear seat: Crack-Free dash: And, the original, never used spare tire, still had some air and is holding 40 lbs well: I recently purchased used, in great shape OEM Toyota Service Manual for the 85 Celica which will be offered to the buyer for the $82.40 I paid.
