Vehicle Detail
I am relisting this car after having fixed the Overdrive problem and the chipped chrome piece. This auction is for an extra clean 1953 Ford Customline Sedan in the classic 1950's Sea Foam Lite Green. This is an excellent quality car, both mechanically and cosmetically. It is powered by an in-line overhead valve 6 cylinder engine that really gets up and goes. There are no mechanical problems with this car. It is truly a rock solid automobile. The 3 speed manual transmission has recently been rebuilt due to a tendency to pop-out of 2nd gear on deceleration. That problem has been eliminated. With the transmission out of the car I took the opportunity to replace the pressure plate, clutch disc, T/O bearing, and pilot bearing. I should have had the flywheel resurfaced as the new clutch does chatter a bit on start up. During the rebuild, the Overdrive unit was tested and the old engagement solenoid was found to be faulty and replaced with a new Borge-Warner solenoid. It was then discovered that the wiring of the overdrive control circuit was incorrect. That has now been rectified and the Overdrive now works perfectly. All of the gauges work perfectly and so does the cigar lighter. The turn signals were working but have recently stopped flashing. All other lights are working. The clock and radio do not work. The heater / ventilator works fine but the blower switch is a bit flaky, sometimes requiring you to jiggle it to get the fan to come on full speed. I haven't been able to find a new replacement switch so I have just had to live with it. Bypassing the switch using an aftermarket switch would solve the problem but, it would distract from the factory stock dash board appearance, however, if you live in an area where the temperatures get very low, you may want to go this route placing the aftermarket switch in an inconspicuous location. The driving characteristics of this car are excellent, as it tracks straight with no tendency to wander and no excess play in the steering. The engine has very good compression and really slows the car down on deceleration; It should be noted here that engine braking can only be achieved with the Overdrive disengaged. With the Overdrive engaged, the transmission automatically shifts into a "Free Wheeling" mode to save fuel. The brakes also work great. The interior is exceptional with no tears and only one worn spot in the drive door windlace. The carpet is in very good condition. The headliner and visors are excellent. There are six new color coordinated vintage style seat belts. The car is pictured with and comes with 1952 hub caps and also includes the four 1953 hub caps pictured in the trunk photo. The exterior paint has the usual chips that have been touched-up. Touch-up paint in both spray and brush-on will be included with the car. The chrome is fantastic. The stainless trim is mostly in great condition except for a few of the side strips where it has been dented. There are no dents however in the car body, and the car appears to have had only one high quality respray in the original color. The undercarriage is just as solid as the rest of the car and there is no rust anywhere on this car. If you are looking for a great entry level 1950's collector car then you need to come and see this car in person. I am located in the Los Angeles area and encourage you to come and drive this car. This is a very nice driver quality car at an affordable price.I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere, so if you want to fly in to LAX and drive it home, I will be glad to pick you up as I am only 10 miles from the airport. Please feel free to call me with questions: 310-874-0648 This car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction at anytime.
