Vehicle Detail
1957 Pontiac Chieftain 2-Door Sedan What a wickedly cool classic 50’s factory sleeper hot rod! 1957 was the introduction year for the Tri-power on the Pontiac’s and this Indian has one! This is equipped the same way NASCAR drivers wanted theirs ordered back in the day – Tripower 2 Door Post Chieftain! Featuring its numbers matching 347 high compression (10:1) V8 equipped with Triple 2bbl Carbs, this car seems like a regular sedan until all the carbs open up and she goes! This was originally bought new in Tennessee, and then passed onto the son of the original owner. He eventually sold it to the third owner who lived in Mississippi. From there it was taken in on trade to another Mississippi owner in 2006 who sold to the current owner in NJ in 2009. The body appears to be decent and the owner states this is a real solid car with original sheetmetal! It has had one repaint done by the third owner. The interior appears to be well kept original or old redo. The door panels have minor curling up on the bottom. The headliner has some separations starting. She has heat and an AM radio for options. The engine starts right up and runs well. The carbs kick in like they should. The automatic transmission shifts well. The suspension rides really nice. The steering feels good and the brakes stop well. To complete the factory sleeper look, it has steel wheels with original small caps. The current owner has done a lot of work to this car to make it a reliable and great driving car. He has recored the radiator, new radiator hoses, new thermostat, new fuel pump, new fuel lines, rebuilt the original carburetors, progressive linkage, new intake manifold gaskets, updated to electronic ignition, new cap, rotor and ignition wires, new spark plugs and ignition coil, new motor and transmission mounts, replaced u-joints on driveshaft, new brake master cylinder, new brake shoes and hardware, new 2” dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, and all new exterior plastic lenses. Yes, she drives like new and cruises down the road with ease.
