Vehicle Detail
Rare Monterey Custom 2 Dr hardtop Factory 4 barrel 390, duel exhaust-Rust Free SurvivorThis is a very Rare and desirable custom trim of the seldom seen Monterey hardtop. This car was added to my collection 5 years ago. I found a ad for a locale one family owned car in great body style and awesome colors. When I looked at it I fell in love and bought it on the spot. At that time it had 120k original miles and was such a clean survivor that I wanted to repair and clean as needed as it was to nice to restore. The original survivor cars are getting harder to find these days and are a joy to own. You can go to a car show and draw a lot of attention or go to the grocery store and not worry about were you park as the car has 50 years of patina already. This is numbers matching and very original car in super original condition. Was bought with the Z code 390, 300 HP, factory 4 barrel Holley. 3.00 rear axle and duel exhaust. Power steering, power brakes, custom trim package, working factory radio with front and rear speakers and has period front seat belts. When I bought the car it had a bad transmission. It went to a repair shop that works on older cars and was brought back to life. The engine was tested and had good compression, so it was pulled wit the transmission for servicing. I spent over 10k after I bought the car to make it very reliable and a great driver. When the running gear was out of the car the underside and engine was steam cleaned and inspected. There was no rust found anywhere on this car. The rockers, trunk and eve the door bottoms are clean! I then bagged the whole car and painted the engine compartment and undercarriage with chassis black. The engine has new brass soft plugs, rebuilt carburetor, rebuilt distributor, water pump, hoses, power steering pump and line, new ford black engine paint and correct Mercury gold with clear coat on the air cleaner and valve covers. Attention was given to keep it reliable and correct. The transmission (dual range-bigger merc o matic) was rebuilt at a 35 year old transmission shop, the rear end was serviced , all new brakes and hoses and brake cylinder updated with new booster and dual master. Tire are recent radials of the correct size. The interior is very clean and looks fabulous. There are a few flaws as follows, a worn spot on the headliner on the passenger side at the very edge from a big box that was pulled out of the car. No holes or tears in headliner. The center headliner bow has lost its tension many years ago in is a little bit lower than the rear. It is still supported well and not noticeable by most people. Drivers seat has a loose seam right were you get in. The vinyl looks good just the thread on the seam has come loose, it could be fixed in place by a good interior guy. The carpet are worn in the front - no holes, just old. The trunk mat was brittle and torn, so it was replaced. I am missing the spare tire ( never had it ! ) The body has 80% of the original paint. I had a ding taken out of the drivers front fender and then the tops of the fenders and hood wear repainted. With careful inspection you can see a couple old repairs made years ago from hitting the garage and items when parking. It has never been in a accident. The drivers door is miss-colored on the front edge as seen in pictures- not so obvious in person and the passenger door has a couple of dings that I felt were not worth fixing. The chrome is good and shiny but original. -Engine completely serviced -New brass soft plugs, mounts -New water pump, heater and radiator hoses -Rebuilt distributor -Rebuilt power steering pump and pressure line -All tune parts and wire set -Completely rebuilt transmission - Rear axle serviced - New tail pipes and stainless mufflers -New front brakes, wheel cylinders, hoses and bearings - Rear brakes and wheel cylinders -Replaced brake booster and upgraded to dual master cylinder - Rebuilt carburetor -Clean and painted under carriage and engine compartment - new battery -Over 10k was spent in the last 1,500 miles I drove the car sparingly for one year then put it in dry storage. Time for someone to get a nice car, as the is not a project. It has some flaws and I may have picked the car apart, but it is a stunning car! Inspections and road tests are encouraged !
