Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 2 owner 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible. This is a very complete and very original project. Originally built 09D (4th week Sept) in mayfair maze with black standard interior and black top. This is a matching numbers car, to define that more I've listed listed the engine/drivetrain components part numbers and date codes:-YJ code(2 barrel carb, 2 speed automatic) 350ci, with correct VIN stamp matching car's VIN-Cylinder heads: cast #17, date codes I187/I157-Intake: date code I147-Distributor part number:1111281 date code 7H31, which still has the dual vacuum port on advance canister-Rear Axle: 979301? date code: H307-4 JO code 14" Rally 2 with trim rings-original water pumpI believe that the transmission is original to the car, but I am not familiar with the 2 speed automatic and where the code markings or VIN would be stamped. The carburetor is not original to the car, it is part number 7029060, but is a rochester 2 barrel. I have not ordered the Pontiac Historical Documents, but it appears the car had a power top/power steering/standard 4 wheel drum brakes.Items it is missing that Im aware of: convertible vibration dampers(cocktail shakers), power top motor(all the lines and actuators are still there), seat belts. This is a running car. I have replaced the cap/rotor/point set, installed a basic carb kit, and replaced the transmission pan gasket. I have driven it around in a parking lot to get it to temp and further evaluate it. THIS IS A RESTORATION PROJECT. My point to make it at least parking lot drive was to insure that powertrain was usable. I would best describe this as an excellent starting point. The lights/wipers/turn signals/horns all work, the key buzzer is still functional. The fuel tank neck and air cleaner heat stove still retain the original tower style clamps. The wiring is in excellent shape, routed properly. Although the car does stop, it will need brake work/tires/suspension work. I do not doubt that being as original as it is all of the rubber and suspension components are unsafe and need replacement. The interior appears to be original, but has some tears and cracks in various spots. The carpet has been removed to expose a floor patch under the driver footwell, and an open hole in the passenger footwell, which is most likely from a leaking heater core. The car is originally mayfair maze, and appears to have been repainted in spots throughout the years. There is evidence of various decals, especially on the underside of the deck lid that suggest that is still original paint in a few locations. I have included photos to hopefully show the rust and sheet metal issues. It will probably need quarter panels, lower front fender patches(at a minimum), floor pans from the front seat mount to the lower firewall, trunk extension panels. The frame rails, subframe, hood, deck lid, floor from seat pan back, upper shock areas, and main trunk pan are in great shape. Please look at the photos and ask questions, I have taken a lot of detailed shots of this car and can send additional photos to better understand what you are buying. If you would like to inspect the car please contact me as soon as possible. I have a clear title (still small 1970 title) that would make you the 3rd owner and original keys. Car is sold as is, if you are bidding you are buyings. Thanks for looking. A $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of auction end via paypal, full payment in 7 days. Buyer is responsible for paying and organizing shipping. Car is located 40 min north of Boston, if you are in the New England area, please contact me about possibly delivering car for a fee.
