Vehicle Detail

As a long time ebayer, I always found it suspect when someone posted that they were selling a car for a neighbor. Now ironically, I find myself in the position of doing exactly that. This is my neighbor's car and I am listing it for him. All information given about it has been relayed to me by him and I am now relaying it to you - the potential buyer. If you're even looking at this car, then chances are you know about the Mercedes 300SD. These cars have such a great reputation that I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time trying to hype what is already a famous car. Let's just get right to the facts. My neighbor bought this car a couple of years ago and it got my attention because I used to have one exactly like it (although mine was actually in MINT condition). I still have a nostalgic place in my heart for that car and I often inquired about his. I saw him driving it every day and he really tried to baby the thing, but about 3 months ago, he was leaving work, stuck the key in the ignition and it wouldn't turn no matter what he tried. For some strange reason, he called a locksmith instead of a mechanic and the mechanic told him it would cost $800-900 bucks to saw out the ignition and put in a new key. Now, I haven't called a mechanic to get a 2nd opinion, but that sounded ridiculous to me. Anyway, my neighbor had it towed back to his home and it has remained in the driveway since that day. He bought another home and is moving and that is why I am now helping him sell it on ebay. He doesn't have time to mess with it and neither do I. According to my neighbor the following things have been done to the vehicle in the last year: NEW BRAKES, NEW SHOCKS, ALIGNMENT, TIE ROD ENDS, FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BUSHING, and a FUEL SYSTEM CLEAN. According to my neighbor, the following things do not work: ODOMETER, TACHOMETER, VACUUM LOCKS, and of course the IGNITION SWITCH issue. It could also use some new tires - I know at least one has some very low tread on it. Things I noticed when I was taking pictures of the car for him were that some trim was hanging down near the interior back window and that the paint is oxidized a bit. I know the car has a block heater on it and as I said earlier, was running great before the ignition switch thing, so I guess it falls somewhere inbetween Project Car and easy fixer/daily driver. If you are the winning bidder, please know that you will be responsible for picking the car up. If you know what you're doing, then you could come replace the ignition switch and then drive it home. Also, it should go without saying that as with just about any car that is 30 years old, there are wear and tear items associated with that age car that I haven't detailed all of. I also noticed when I took the photos that the car seems to have an aftermarket stereo and I'll have to ask about where the face is as I didn't see that until I started listing it, but I'm sure he's got it. As always, Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!
