Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very very nice original 1967 Ford Galaxie 500XL Convertible that is was a 1 family owned car that has spent it's whole life here in Idaho,s high desert.A real Gentleman's Muscle car.We don't have the rust problems they do in much of the country due to the climate and no salt on the roadways.I am offering this car as found to someone that is looking for a great car to restore.I don't believe that if you were looking for one that you could find a better example.I know what I could do easily to make it look great to the eye for selling, but this car is so nice that it deserves to be done right. This car came from an estate of a family member that purchased the car from the original family member that bought the car new here in the valley. This man was an airplane mechanic and was ahead of the game as far as mechanics and loved the car and it was his baby. There were 19,068 Galaxie 500 Convertibles made in 1967 but far fewer of the XL's with the high end trim and bucket seats. This one has the 390 c.i. motor with the 2 barrel carb and C6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission. It has an amazing amount of power and moves this car well. The information was sparse for the heirs of this car but everything ,engine and transmission wise seems real fresh. The motor doesn't smoke or burn any oil and the transmission is strong and smooth.I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere.I also had the power braks booster and the master cylinder rebuild so it has great brakes. When I got the car the first thing I did was have the fluids all drained and changed.I had the carb rebuilt to factory specs and new filters installed.I also took the car in and had the transmission checked out and made sure everything was up to par. This car is an all matching #s car.It drives like a dream and and performs beautifully.Everything works on the car except for the gas gauge. The lights all work including blinkers, brake, tail, high and low beam headlights, dash, and interior. It doesn't have AC but it has a heater that will blow you out.The original AM radio works and even the front & rear speaker. The sill plates are in great shape and would clean up like new. There is no rust on this car,not even a pin hole anywhere, which is very unusual for a convertible of this age,any car for that matter. The seats are in good shape with the exception of a couple of seams in the tucks in the passenger side, that could be fixed, and a couple of small cuts in the rear seat. The material is still supple and comfortable and could be repaired. The door panels are very nice and the only imperfection is the drvers side arm rest has a tear. The only power option is the drivers side seat and it works fine and the top which works great. The top frame is in very good condition and not racked at all and still retains the original paint in perfect condition. All the windows operate nicely and has the roll out wing windows. All the glass is in good shape and is the original Ford script. The heavy chrome around the windows is very nice with no rust or pitting at all.The carpet is functional but would need replaced to look nice. The dash has some cracks in it and needs attention but isn't terrible.I have included some pictures of the underneath and it looks as good anywhere you look, again no rust.It has a very nice exhaust system and sounds great, very quiet but that big block v8 sound. This is a nice quiet ride like floating on a feather. The mirrors are both in great shape with the drivers being a remote. The tires have a lot of tread but are the old bias tires and I wouldn't trust them for a long trip, but I would trust the car mechanically,so if you fly in and drive it home you will want to change tires. There is a spare and the original jack in the trunk and as you can see from the pictures the trunk is in great shape as well. As I said earlier I know what I could do for this car to doll it up on the cheap to make it present really nice but because it is so nice I am offering it so a person can do it the way they want.A top can be purchased from Perfect Fit,which has the original patterns for Ford tops, for $190 and free shipping. The back glass window section is in good shape and you could get along and have a nice driver by just changing the top.The liner is in pretty good shape with one small hole.If you were restoring a person would probably change it all. This is the reason that I am at this point leaving the car as is. There are so many pictures and so many things that I could say about the car and I'm sure I'll thing of all after I post this.... This is a very worthy straight car that is a perfect example to be restored,I can't say enough about how nice it is. Any questions feel free to call me Don @ 208 353 1972 I would like a $500 deposit via Paypal at auctions end and the balance to be paid in full with bank to bank wire transfer or cash by hand within 7 days of auctions end. On Sep-23-12 at 12:46:54 PDT, seller added the following information: I wanted to add, that I would welcome any inspection and that I would keep the car under cover for the new owner for a reasonable time. ALSO wanted to mention the fit on the body, how nice it is with no sags in the doors which is unusual in convertibles of this age.The doors close with ease and open nicely as do the hood and trunk. The car is really tight with no rattles at all and very easy to sit and ride in.The car tracks down the road as should. The shipping is up to the new buyer but I will assist any way that I can. PLEASE if you have 0-10 FEEDBACK contact me before bidding or the bid will be retracted due to scam buyers.
