Vehicle Detail
I am reluctantly selling my 1976 TR6 with low reserve. Reluctantly because I've owned it for 25 years and always thought I would restore it some day. However, as often happens, life just got in the way and therewas always something that took priority for both time and money! I do have to admit that one of those things was a TR250 that I just could not resist and althoughI could never really figure out which car I wanted to keep, it somehow always won out on whatever resources were available, so I've finally decided (10 yearslater) that the TR6 should go to the good home it richly deserves. I could go on and on about TR6 history, but I think this link provides all the information you may need in the unlikely event you are viewing this listing but arenot very familiar with Triumphs! Not allowed to include links so edit this please auto.howstuffworks . com/1962-1976-triumph-tr4.htm> This is definitely a project car. It will need restoration. However apart from a rusted out drivers side floor panel (and to a much lesser extent the passenger side)the rest of the body and frame are free of penetrating rust. In particular the door sills are solid, as is the trunk floor. If the car sells by virtue of the bidding reachingmy (low) reserve price I will include a new drivers side floor panel (in it's original box) that I purchased many years ago so that you won't see the ground beneaththe car from inside! These panels are freely available from the major suppliers but cost upwards of $200 unless there is a good sale running. By the way there are three very well known parts suppliers here in the USA along with a host of smaller companies, many of whom list here on eBayThese companies are The Roadster Factory, Moss Motors and Victoria British. All of them have excellent parts catalogs and will be delighted to add youto their mailing lists !!! Prices are average to reasonable and many great sales are held during the average year. I have not found many parts you cannotsource with the possible exception of the original Lucas hazard switch for some reason. (This car has it's switch by the way, although it is the earlier carsthat seem to have that issue) THE GOOD NEWS 1976 was the end of an era for the Triumph TR. It had already been replaced the previous year with a very different type of car - the TR7 - thus bringing to anend a line of body on frame TR's that stretched unbroken from the TR2 of 1954. (yes there was a TR1 but it was a prototype). Collectors often prefer the beginning and end of a model, or indeed an entire line. First year for the TR6 was 1969 and the last was 1976. This is surely a car that will appreciate. Indeedpeople are already asking quite serious money for pristine TR6's which, it has been suggested, is the spiritual successor to the fabulous Austin Healey 3000 The car has the following 'nice to have' items installed: 1) A cylinder head with hardened valve seats installed. I purchased this many years ago from the Roadster Factory so that it can run on unleaded fuel. 2) A spin on oil filter conversion and 4 row oil cooler with the braided metal pipes 3) A full tonneau cover (good condition), but no other top 4) A period appropriate AM/FM radio (working order but no antenna is currently fitted) 5) A battery which is in good condition Both seats are correct TR6 pattern and quite sound. However one is Black and one is Tan ( I intended to redo the interior in Black) The dashboard, and crash pads are mostly good - wood dash especially so. Other interior panels including door cards, panels, and carpets will needto be replaced as will the dashboard top. All instruments and switches (have you priced some of these?) are present and correct Apart from some minor blisters in the paint there is NO other body rust The engine spins freely on the starter and I recorded approximately 125psi across the board when I did a compression test (if this seems a little low remember this was a low compression 7.75 to 1 engine by 1976 - with the hardened valve seat head it will run happily on unleaded regular) Encouraged by the fact the engine is free and seems to have good compression I hooked up a temporary fuel supply , poured some oil down thecylinders, and to my delight the engine starts and runs nicely. I have not attempted to put gas in the fuel tank although that was flushed and painted a couple of years ago. One of the pictures shows this installed back in the trunk I have a clear Florida title from the previous owner. The car was purchased in Virginia and I never titled it It is complete, or virtually complete - OK there may be a few nuts and bolts I've misplaced, but all major components are attached or willcome with the car THE BAD NEWS The car is not driveable and will need to be trailored to your location. If you provide me your city and zip code I can assist with shipping quotesand I will assist the driver load the car. (it rolls freely) Disclaimer This is a 36 year old car and is being sold as-is and where-is. Buyer understands I make the above representations to the best of my belief (as wellas wanting to keep my 100% feedback rating!). Once again you cannot drive this vehicle away but I have described it accurately to the best of myknowledge as well as provided a lot of pictures. If you would like more pictures or description of any area please contact me while the auction is running Payment Policy USA buyers ONLY please. I am not experienced at shipping cars abroad. The only exception to this rule is if you can arrange pickup and shippingyourself and I have been paid before the car leaves my driveway. A deposit of $500 is required within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The remainder must be paid within 3 business days of auction end. I will storethe vehicle for a reasonable time (i.e a couple of weeks) while transport is arranged and work with you to get quotes. I am very sorry but much though I like to be able to trust people I have seen too many scams, PayPal is not supposed to be used for the balance after the initial deposit, so I will accept cash inhand or a money order if sent in time to be deposited before pickup (or I suppose you could just pay the whole balance via PayPal upfront) Thank you for looking!! If you are in the market for a TR6 restoration this winter this could be just what you're looking for and you could be drivinga great classic car by next spring!! These are relatively easy and fun cars to work on, and as mentioned above parts are easy to find. I will leave a few partscatalogs in the car. p.s just noticed I didn't upload any engine pictures. Nothing abnormal about it. I was delighted to see it runs. It does have all the smog equipment includingthe very rare air pump and double pulley which drives it. However the system is all disconnected. If you want any more information or to see pictures ofspecific areas please feel free to ask a question. I don't have a car hoist unfortunately so I've done my best to take under car shots. Its dirty and has cobwebsbut looks sound except for the drivers floor board through which you can see the road. However a repair panel is included if the car sells On Sep-28-12 at 11:37:57 PDT, seller added the following information: In response to several questions the frame and differential mounts appear very sound. The only rust issue is the floors as already described.I do not have a hoist so all chassis observations were necessarily taken using a jack to raise each part of the car in turn
