Vehicle Detail
Some history. This is the newest addition to my fleet, a 1994 Alfa Romeo 164LS. The LCD display and cruise control work!!!!The car was purchased new by a doctors office as a company car for one of its doctors. After the lease was up the doctor who was driving the car purchased it from the company to use as his own personal car. He continued to maintain it and drive it until this past year. It started running rough and the decision had been made (less him, more by the wife) to part with the car rather than possibly risk dumping good money into bad. I purchased the car as a probable parts car, but when I saw how original it was I couldn’t rob parts off it to use on my own cars. I did a timing belt change and turns out the intake and exhaust cams were off one tooth each. After that the car started up and ran quiet well. I have included the pictures of the engine under the cam covers. If you have ever done a 24v timing belt change you will know this is crazy clean! I asked the owner, he just said Mobil1 20w50 changed every 5,000 miles was all he did. Apparently the previous owners on my other cars were not so kind, cuz none of my other LS look like this! The doctor sold the car to me with all the factory books, every receipt and work order, as well as all the change under the seat. I found a key to a Mazda, but that isn't included in the sale. From what I can tell it has been meticulously maintained with OEM or NOS parts and is shockingly original. The exterior is all original paint, with no body work ever done. The exhaust is whisper quiet, as compared to my modified 164s, almost too quiet compared to my other two LSs.The good. The LCD display works. Can you tell I can’t get over that part? To boot at the stepper motors work, very well. Remote key fob arms and disarms the car. Also big OEM key/light combo just needs a new battery. Both power mirrors work as well as fold in and out without problems. The radio works, as well as the antenna goes up and down. The cassette player works great when I plug in my mp3 player adaptor. Radio stations suck these days, I have gotten hooked on Pandora. The sunroof works in all functions, doesn’t get stuck when it’s closing like my other ones. High speed and low speed fans both work. Rear view mirror auto dimmer works great. The interior is uber mint, I hate how the black leather usually gets the wear cracks, this one is totally void of them. Never smoked in, and no pets have ever shed alllll over it. Check out the pictures, nicest black 164 interior I have had the pleasure of sitting in. I always feel like the tan interiors age better. The car rides like a dream, suspension is very tight, and the bridgestone tires have 75% tread left. All the stainless steel trim is in awesome shape. It has zero dents and most of it is unhazy and has the shine still. Can you believe it isn't an automatic! Thank god, most of the 1994-1995 are. That being said the shifter bushings were replaced and this is the tightest shifter I have ever had in a 164. Its almost uncomfortable how direct and solid it feels, I am used to worn out or the cable actuated one on my 6-speed. Lots of the tiny bits that are usually missing are there. Fog light covers, tow hook plug, tool kit, ski holder in the trunk thingy. Whats wrong with it!?These pictures are just me pulling over on the side of the road and snapping them with my phone. I did not wash it or detail the car at all. That being said although its good, the paint is not perfect; the clear coat is dulling on the roof and one spot on the hood. There is a spot of rust on the exterior drivers side rear door jam. I was planning on repainting it this winter. The rims have the trypical LS clear coat peeling. Alfisto Steve recently refinished a set I sold him and it came out great, I was hoping to do that this winter. You can see someone put a “Spanish Bull’ on the rear, which I think is cool as all heck. It’s a fairly cheap sticker and will more than likely be removed with a bit of adhesive remover. I think it’s awesome, so it stays until you get it. The heated seats are intermittent, so I am gonna sell the car saying they do not work, and if you get some more time to trouble shoot them it may be functioning. Currently the AC does not blow very cold. The previous owner said that every two or three years he would get it recharged and it would blow cold. I was planning on dumping some Freon in it, might do it this week, probably not tho lets be real its fall and cold. Why the hell am I selling this?I know, I am totally gonna regret this. Obviously this is my best 164 of the four I own. It’s the only one worth anything as well. An opportunity has arisen that has forced me to be stupid and sell the best running Alfa I own to finance purchasing another Italian car that is in pieces. Sounds logical right? If you are a car guy you totallllyyyy get this. Price? I would love to see $6,000 for it. However I am a realist. I will probably be open to serious offers, but if it doesn't sell by September 20, 2012 I will be doing some more work on it and re-selling it in the spring cleaned up and show car clean.
