Vehicle Detail

Driver's car - ready for cosmetic restoration Purchased early this year with the intent to do a gradual cosmetic restoration of what was advertised as a well running, solid, west coast driver's car. That was largely true with the exception of the well running part. As received, the car had extensive oil blow by due to broken pistons and rings, scored conrod bearings, failed head gasket, leaky axle half shafts, that ran hot and leaked oil everywhere. $3400 was invested at Gary Baucom's race shop this summer to resolve those issues, including rebuilding the engine, etc. Receipts are available. Gary is one of the Southeast's foremost Fiat experts, and holder of numerous SCCA track records at Road Atlanta in Fiat 124's. His shop happens to be within 1/2 hr of my home, which was incredibly lucky. The unibody/floor was declared to be in good structural condition. The car now runs starts and runs properly and has successfully passed North Carolina State inspection. Not always easy for a 42 year old car! After the Fiat was acquired, my last child was accepted at an exclusive (very expensive) Boston college, and while the car is fun (now that it's fixed), we've decided to downsize. The means selling off some of the extra non-essential cars that won't fit in the smaller garage, including this toy. What is still needed (full disclosure) While the car is now a leak-free, structurally solid driver, it is now ready for cosmetic restoration. The paint is shiny, but not in great condition. The car should be stripped and repainted. The original color appears to have been a bright yellow, with the red painted over it. The bumpers and exterior chrome are in good shape. The carpets and interior can use re-doing as well, a few odds and ends pieces of hardware, latches (all minor and available) should be replaced. Had I the spare storage space and funds, I would absolutely keep this and get the cosmetics done over the next year or 2. Hagerty Insurance feels that this car's book value is approximately $7,000-$8,000. At the point I've got nearly $8,000 into the car (purchase price, plus transport from west coast to NC, plus rebuilds). You will pay far less than that! My loss is your gain.
