****** ESTATE SALE ****** From a southern California ESTATE ......... We are pleased to be able to offer up for sale a beautiful 1965 Mustang coupe that over a 24 month period has been restored to better than new. This is a numbers matching southern California Car. The owner picked this car to restore because for many years it was owned by a close friend and he has had knowledge of the car since the mid 1970-s. The owner started out with the idea of creating a modern performance car ........ while maintaining the classic look of the 1965 Mustang. The look that a entire generation of car buffs fell in love with when it was created, and that popularity has carried over to the next generation as these cars are as popular today as they ever were. The car was finished about 1 year ago and since that time has been driven less than 3,000 miles. We will be listing the many upgrades to the car as well as showing you over 125 photos of the Car. Starting with the body, chrome and paint.......... A frame up restoration. The Car has always been a southern California Car and very little rust had to be dealt with, but the small amount of rust that was found was cut out and replaced with metal. This includes the area below the back window where Mustangs traditionally collected water. Many weeks were spent getting the body to show car condition before the Ford Mineral Grey enamel paint was applied with ghost stripes, and then clear coat added after that. The doors, trunk and hood fit better today than when the car first left detroit ........ simply because more time was spent fitting them properly than when new. The bumpers, grill and trim were re-chromed or replaced if the quality was lacking in any way. The bill from the body and paint shop for this car was just over $17,000.00 ........... and a close examination of the car will tell you it was worth every dollar! SUSPENSION: The old school looking 17" Centerline wheels mounted on new rubber (less than 3,000 miles) retain the original look the owner was striving for. A great deal of work was done to keep the tires and wheels inside the original wheel wells. The suspension package was also re-built and updated including Shelby upper control arms, 620 lowering springs, 1 inch sway bar in the front and 3/4 inch in the rear, Caltrac traction bars and line loc on the front brakes which were changed to 13 inch Cobra front disc with cross drilled rotors and 12 inch rear's with upgraded calipers on all 4 corners and stainless steel lines front and rear ...... plus 5 leaf reverse eye springs. The car drives smooth without any body roll and the stopping power is quite good even with the added power under the hood. ENGINE BAY: The original 289 V-8 engine was re-built and up-graded by famed Ed Hale engine shop near San Diego. The engine like the rest of the Car was upgraded for more performance ......... but still keeping in mind the firm goal of being reliable and easy to drive even in traffic. Upgrades under the hood include World's product heads, 2.02/1.60 valves and roller rockers, Shelby valve covers, single plane modified intake to clear stock hood, modified carb for blo thru with Extreme Velocity carb hat, full ASD ignition, custom fitted radiator with custom brackets, single T70mm turbo kit, custom forward facing headers, Tial blow off valve and JGS 40mm wastegate with 3 inch exhaust out the back, polished 3 inch down pipe done with stainless and aluminum, sumped stock tank and sending unit with boost regulator, AN feed and return lines for A1000 Fuel Pump mounted in the rear. The battery was relocated to the trunk and sits in a custom billet housing. The engine was not run on a Dyno but conservative estimates put the horsepower output in the 350 to 375 range. A considerable amount of planning and expert work was needed to get this powerplant fitting nicely under the stock hood. You can find nice Mustang's every day with altered hood's ......... but it is much more time consuming to have all of this under the hood and retain a stock look. Please take the time watch the slideshow of 125 photos that you can click on at the bottom of this listing. TRANSMISSION/DRIVETRAIN: The car is fitted with a close ratio Toploader 4 speed transmission with a scatter-shield, king cobra clutch and roller bearing upgrade to clutch pedal, 3.5 inch aluminum driveshaft to a Custom Currie heavy duty housing rear end, Currie axles, limited slip and 31 spline axles to a 3.25 ratio. Again ....... A great deal of planning was put into the engine and drivetrain mods to insure there is not a weak link anywhere in the drivetrain. INTERIOR: As with the exterior of this Mustang, the owner wanted the interior to reflect the original and classic good looks of the original 1965 Mustang. The front seats and the rear seats are new old stock and then a aftermarket gauge package, shift light, air fuel ratio, and boost gauge have been added. The metal area of the door panels and the dash correctly match the exterior mineral Grey color. The stereo system has also been upgraded with new speakers front and rear plus a amp and sub-woofer mounted in the trunk. The trunk is about the only thing that is not completely finished on this car, and the finishing of the trunk only involves hiding the wires for the sub-woofer and attaching the carpet which is already installed ...... but the new owner needs to do something! The majority of work to assemble the Car was done by CPR street machines in Santee, California. The owner was meticulous in the entire build process and was not afraid to have something re-done if it was not perfect the first time........... but it is now time for a new project and time to find a new home for this Mustang ........ So? .......... What is a 1965 Mustang that has undergone a 2 year restoration at a cost of nearly $60,000.00 worth today on the secondary market? ...................... That is the question ........ and we are going to let our worldwide eBay customers weigh in with the answer to that. We have recently seen Mustangs not as nice as this one ......... priced in the $37,500.00 to $40,000.00 range ....... but we will START the bidding at a single Benjamin Franklin and we will sell this Mustang with NO RESERVE to the high bidder. It does not get any better than that ......... This Mustang is being advertised locally ............. so do not delay your bidding or you will likely find this Mustang already gone. I think if this Mustang sells for anything LESS than $30,000.00 you will be stealing it. While we maintain this car is easy to drive for what it is ......... It is NOT a toy and we would not anyone to buy this car that did not respect and understand the power! We urge you to take the time to come and see this car if it is at all possible. You will not be dissapointed. The Car is available to be seen by appointment in Lakeside, California (near San Diego). Please call Mike at 760-219-7128 with questions, to discuss an offer or to make an appointment.
