Vehicle Detail

1949 Kaiser Virginian number 612 of approx. 980 ever made. The 1949-1950 Kaiser Virginian is well known among Kaiser fans. But unknown among other car collectors. Kaiser-Frazer cars were built from 1947 to 1955. In 1949, the company sought to build a showroom traffic "halo" car - a convertible and they did. But they also built the Virginian, a convertible with a "hardtop" roof and therefore created a whole new segment. GM came out with 2 door hardtops also in 1949. Virginians were built for 2 years as they were slow selling. This is #612 of 980. It is Polar Grey with a Turquoise fabric top. Now, this car was purchased by me from an eccentric seller in Minnesota. It was a field car for 35 years and is rough, but complete and restorable. I will not BS you, it is dirty and the interior is tough. I have yet to get the passenger doors to open. There are 3 colors of lichen on the body. BUT, the rare and unavailable Virginian parts are OK. The Virginian has a unique rear glass, not shared with normal 49-50 Kaisers, IF this rear glass is cracked, good luck. Mine is fine. The doors are not shared with other kaisers and are OK too. The seat cushions are junk, springs are there. There is rust out in the drivers foot area, the trunk floor is OK and most of the rest of the floor is OK but assume some hidden rust on the flat floors. Front clip is crusty but complete and fenders are OK, meaning no rust perforation. NO TITLEDrivetrain is complete and code on motor is 1949, probably the original Continental flathead 6. Dash is complete, heck, car is complete except maybe some lower stainless lower trim and fender skirts. Comes with an extra dash, seats and misc parts from a lousy 50 Kaiser delivered with it that I parted out. I have $1000 in the car. Tires go flat but hold air long enough to load, rolls to load and trailer can be lined straight up. Has a dent in the roof. The roof is unique to the Virginian, remember this was literally a convertible that they welded a faux convertible look steel top on. Dent is repairableAbout the colors. Kaisers can be tracked almost to a "tee". The codes on this one show it was Polar Grey (an off white) with teal or turquise fabric top and a mostly teal or turquise interior (look at dash) You can paint it whatever you want but if you buy it to restore you are - in my opinion - in ownership of a rare artifact that should be carefully and correctly restored as 1 of 980 (very rare) but ultimately you can do whatever you want. NO TITLE The trunk floor has the original carpet and appears to have no rust through. I have an extra set of very nice tallamps and lenses that go with the car. This car is complete as noted except the rear wheel fender skirts and hubcaps. The Kasier Frazer Owners Club is a source for many parts for this car. The interior, though rough, has patterns of the original inteiror for matching. Remember, the Virginian was literally a convertible with the steel top and so has the convertible seats and doors. If you want, email me and I can send you photos of a Polar Grey Virginian in original condition OR google Virginian and you will get a lot of photos. This is a very rare car and the only project I have seen on ebay in 4 years. Occasionally a finished car, or a nice original will be offered on ebay but if you want to do it from the ground up as a restoration, this is a RARE opportunity. Car is garaged as you can see and has been garaged for over one year. Comes with bill of sale but titles are not impossible to get. This vehicle has it's original tag in the correct position on the firewall and this is how it was decoded. Has manual windows, which is a blessing since the hydraulic ones were problematic to restore. Flat glass is either broken or needs replaced EXCEPT THE ULTRA RARE VIRGINIAN glass. This was - as mentioned - a Minnesota field car doomed for a bad conclusion. The eccentric owner onwed land for 45 years and the suburbs had encroached right up to his property. The reason the glass is broken in the side is because kids would throw rocks the windows to break them out. THANK GOOD NESS no kid threw a rock at the rear glass !!!The Virginian also shared trunk hatch components ONLY with the convertible so normal Kaisers had internal trunk hinges but this Virginian has cool external trunk chrome plated hinges. email or call with questions 515-520-2611 Bryan
