Vehicle Detail

1978 Scout Traveler Diesel This car was my dads pride and joy. Sadly with his passing, it is necessary to find a new home for it. This may be the slowest vehicle ever, based on my many times driving it as a youth. Maybe he saved my life and licence by having a vehicle that could only be raced competitively against farm implements. I would not be surprised to find that this particular Traveler is 1 of 1 made, this is a 2WD model, I would have to think that the folks in the factory had to scramble to find a non driving front axle, who buys a Scout with 2WD, without Air Conditioning or Power steering? and because it would be way to fast with a turbo, he chose the Non turbo. My dad was a lover of diesel engines and chasing fuel economy, long before it was fashionable, I think he may have even changed the rear axle ratio to something that spun the motor a bit slower at highway speeds, however that is only a memory I have, and the knowledge of if that took place is with him. As this car later became a hobby, and an award winning vehicle at various Scout shows, he decided that the engine definitely did not have enough chrome. He has chromed various components in the engine; it is the craziest thing ever on a diesel engine, but pretty cool. This vehicle is as straight and stock as you could ever hope to find. Please take some time to look at the photos that I have posted. I have tried to identify most of the dents and dings, it was involved in a light fender bender in the mid 80s, and some of the right side door dings seem to be into bondo, not metal. This vehicle is drivable and has good tires, but it has sat for long periods of time and has been rarely driven over the last 15 years, usually to scout shows. There may or may not be addition parts and nick nacks that go with it, I will be looking over the garage area when I am in Wickenburg during labor day weekend. I will also be including all of the awards it has won, I think they are mostly wall plaques. Please ask me any question, if I don't know I will do my best to find out. Additional photos can be found here....  http://s1122.photobucket.com/albums/l535/eric_o1/  / If the link does not work, email me . Rust free All Stock, except the chrome and aftermarket radio/speakers (80s vintage Radio Shack, very nice) Highly detailed, underside has been painted. 4 Speed manual No Air Conditioning or Power steering, The odometer has rolled once Some of the things I noticed when I fired it up last time: Right rear blinker does not work, it is not the bulb, and so additional troubleshooting is required.I am not sure if the glow plugs are working, if you are familiar with the system on this vehicle, you will know that a small element glows on the shutdown panel; I did not notice that it ever glowed. I used a squirt of starter fluid and it fired right up. The starter solenoid may be getting weak, the starter cut out a couple times when I was starting it. The exterior push button for the rear hatch is loose, I could not find a simple way to tighten it. It does not affect its operation This Vehicle is located in Wickenburg AZ, it is generally NOT available for viewing due to its storage situation. I will be in Wickenburg during Labor Day weekend; I could, at that time, show the vehicle. I would also entertain showing the vehicle to a serious buyer any other time, but you would have to be very convincing, because I would be flying from Atlanta to meet you. I would of course assist with shipping and I will try to answer any questions you may have. This is a great example of a rare vehicle, if you are a IH fan, then this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. On Aug-20-12 at 17:33:23 PDT, seller added the following information: 1978 Scout Traveler Diesel: Revised Aug 20 This car was my dads pride and joy. Current Questions: Reserve is currently 5000, please read further below for add'l thoughts on this. Can the top be removed?, I have pondered this question frequently. Here is my opinion, if someone has the real answer please let me know, the Interior trim around the top base is easily removable, and at that time you would clearly see what it would take. I assumed that based on the shape of the roof from the inside that there may be some type of roll bar inside the top, and it may simply bolted to the body. My opinion was it appeared to be easily removable. But I dont know for sure. This is a great example of a rare vehicle, if you are a IH fan, then this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I have set the reserve at 5000, This is an unusual vehicle, and quite honestly I am unable to determine its actual market value. If it does not sell this time around I will re-list it, I will then consider a more appropriate reserve. I may also be putting it in auto trader, so this auction may end early do to the vehicle being sold outside Ebay. Revision Notes: I have removed the statement that I will meet someone for viewing, obviously that is not feasible within the limited auction time range. I have added the reserve price.I have answered a question about removing the top.I have clarified meeting during labor day, as that would only be possible if it does not sell within the current auction time frame.
