Vehicle Detail
Don’t miss this chance to own this wonderful Slate Grey Metallic, with grey leather interior California garaged 2002 Porsche 911. This 911 was purchased from a friend who took very good care of it. I have all records and books going back to the second owner, This Carrera has never been in an accident and all panels are original with original paint. It’s dent free and is one of the cleanest 996 MkII cars I have seen, it’s close to concourse level. The Mark II 996 are the ones to own because they benefitted from redesigned bumpers and headlights, but more importantly Porsche increased the displacement of the engine from 3.4 to 3.6 liters and did some fine tuning of the chassis for better handling. Many also feel the build was improved but that’s a matter of opinion. I have owned a lot of air cooled 911’s and I can say first hand that the 996 is a far more comfortable and capable 911….it’s faster and handles better than the earlier ones and Porsche has done a wonderful job creating that driver’s cockpit but with enough room for passengers and groceries to almost be a practical daily driver. Put another way, Porsche has designed the chassis and steering so it feels very planted and comfortable at the same time. Add in the power of the 3.6L plus the flexibility of the well-spaced six speed gearbox and you have a combination that could get you into trouble with the law unless you are paying attention to your actual speed. Within the last 1500 miles thousands of dollars were invested to make the car the most reliable long range 996. When I purchased the car a pre purchase inspection revealed a little oil seeping (not dripping) from the rear of the engine. I first thought rear main seal, but it turns out the Intermediate Shaft bearing had a tiny leak so everything was professionally changed at that time to the tune of $4000 including a new factory clutch, new factory oil separator (above the transmission), new front transmission mount, new factory rear main seal, and of course the LN Engineering Intermediate Shaft (IMS) full bearing retrofit. Please note that if there are no issues with the rear main seal (and there wasn’t with this engine at almost 80k miles) there will likely be no issue going into the future. With the LN Engineering upgrade this motor will be good for 250k miles….or until it needs another clutch. Again, the clutch, oil separator and rear main seal were all good, I just changed them to new since the engine and transmission were out of the car anyway. Coolant hoses and alternator were replaced under the previous owner and I just changed the oil/filter and replaced all ignition coils and spark plugs for a full tune up. This will be a huge peace of mind and money savings for the next owner. The body is ding and dent free and there are no scratches or damage. It’s clear this 911 was always garaged and covered car. There is only one small chip I am pointing towards and there has never been any touch up paint applied to the car. Wheels are in excellent condition without any curb rash and have 235 and 285 tires front and rear with at least 50% treadlife. They come with painted crests. Interior of the car looks near new, front seats were always entered and exited with care and it shows. All lights, CD Changer, sunroof, computer controls work flawlessly. Both the heater and the air conditioner also work great, in fact, the AC in the 911 is like nothing else, it’s at the level of GM air conditioning and that’s not an exaggeration. Cold or hot starts are never a problem and it always starts up without any smoke. Back and 3/4 side glass are lightly tinted, windshield is in excellent condition. The reason for selling is I don’t drive it enough and have to reduce the fleet. I have taken lots of photos in order to show you every aspect, please check them all out at http: http://imageshack.us/g/32/1003550es.jpg/ The car will also come with a couple of extras; a fully lined and fitted Porsche Carrera Factory 996 Coupe cover and a 997 low mileage shifter to be installed by the new owner. This 997 shifter will provide shorter and more efficient throws than the stock 996 shifter. Please note, I am not a dealer. The previous owner and I keep in touch with each other and I would like to continue this Porsche Club of America (PCA) tradition by maintaining communication and getting updates on the car as it goes to the next owner therefore I DO NOT wish to sell to a reseller or a dealer. To support this I have a unique offer; I will cover the cost of shipping via DAS (open carrier) anywhere in the Continental US to the winner if the two following criteria are met 1) a private party buyer registering the car in their name, 2) bidding on the car reaches at least $23,500. The winner of the auction will be fully responsible for providing me with a Cashier’s Check in the amount of the winning bid within three (3) business days of auction close and vehicle must be picked up within eight (8) days of the auction ending, unless they qualify for free shipping. With a purchase like this it is impractical to finance; winning bidder should have cash funds available. If you would rather fly and drive, I am located 20 minutes from San Jose’s Mineta International airport and can come to pick you up. Don’t hesitate to contact me via Ask Seller a Question if you have any questions, Enjoy! On Aug-03-12 at 08:14:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Some have asked about the average gas mileage or MPG and I have to say it's spectacular when you compare it to previous 911's. One of the photos shows almost 23 mpg on average for the life of the car, this is amazing since all of the owners have been very light with regards to the pedal....many of the 996's you will see have closer to 20 mpg or less on average. There was also a question on the IMS bearing, the symptom was just a small oil leak, no metal or disintegration of the bearing was present, but I believe in preventative maintenance so I changed everything. For example, the clutch disk and pressure plate and throwout bearing were replaced by a previous owner, but I decided to just replace everything again (Factory OE Parts) since the transmission was out of the car. Please keep the questions coming and good luck bidding! On Aug-06-12 at 22:44:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks everyone for the interest, one of our eBay community members reminded me that I had a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) completed about 2k miles ago, so why not show it as well as the repair receipt for the major items. I have added three photos (#22,23, and 24) at the end to show 1) the PPI, 2) the Repair Receipt and 3) parts involved all done by Ken's Sportech, Porsche Specialist in Campbell, CA. Pre Purchase Inspection called out seven items, (items in parenthesis were taken care of after purchase of vehicle): 1. Needs rear brakes (Rear pads, sensors, and rotors changed) (New front rotors and pads and sensors will come uninstalled with car, still 50% life remaining on present set) 2. Door lock button on dash broken (this was replaced and fixed by myself) 3. License plate lights not lighting(this was fixed by myself) 4. Front tires and alignment (Michelin Sport Contacts installed on the front wheels, professional alignment completed) 5. Rear main seal or IMS, oil leaking (IMS, RMS, oil separator, and new clutch pack including pressure plate and throwout bearing installed) 6. Front transmission mount cracked (new design front transmission mount installed) 7. Brake fluid flush (this was performed with ATE Gold, complete flush) In addition to this, K&N filter cleaned, spark plugs replaced, oil/filter change, as well as all new (six total) Beru Coil on plug ignition modules installed. Thanks everyone and good luck bidding!
