**************************** ESTATE SALE ***************************** From a Yucca Valley, California ESTATE .......... We are pleased to be selling at a NO RESERVE Auction ........... A very original Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. This 1966 model FJ was first purchased by the current owner's Grandfather in November of 1965 from C and K motors in Escalon, California. He kept and used this LandCruiser all over the western states while fishing, prospecting and just seeing the west ......... until the mid 1980's, when he passed it down to his son who used it sparingly ............ and then about the year 2000 it was passed on to the current owner who also has used it lightly. The current and original odometer reading is 50,490 miles ....... and you will need to look high and low to find a 1966 FJ40 Land Cruiser with fewer original miles than this one. This FJ40 is currently registered and the buyer will receive a California title. Before this Toyota was purchased in 1966, the current owner's Grandfather did a lot of research and decided that this FJ40 was far and away the best in class of what was being offered to the public at that time for a personal 4 wheel drive vehicle. This view was soon held by a great many people as the FJ40 sales sky-rocketed in the late 1960's. While you had other choices like the International Scout, Willy's Jeep C.J.5 or the Land Rover ......... these options were all powered by 4 cylinder engines putting out less than 90 horsepower ........... while the Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser had a 3.8 litre In-line 6 cylinder engine putting out a stout 135 horsepower! ........... It really was the best choice if you planned to do much highway driving or take any long distance trips and Toyota claimed a cruising speed of 85 mph in a early brochure......... plus this FJ had enough power to allow you to tow a small travel trailer as was the growing fad in those days. Toyota first began production of the FJ40 in 1959 and they were first sold in Brazil ........... Like the American Jeep ......... Toyota first made the FJ line for carrying troops and many were also sold to mining companies who needed reliable 4 wheel drive transportation. The first year of U.S. sales was 1965 and as you can tell from the frame number on this 1966 model that we are selling (FJ40 37904) this is a very early model. This FJ is all original and a numbers matching vehicle. It may be the most original un-molested example available for sale today. We have about 130 photos of this '66 FJ40 Land Cruiser and we hope you will take the time to watch the slideshow and get a good idea of the actual condition of this Toyota. Today this FJ40 has just less than 50,500 original miles all total and that means it has averaged about 1100 miles per year since new! ................ but since it already had 33,200 miles on the odometer in May of 1978 ............. it has averaged just about 500 miles per year since 1978 ............... while it has remained in the original owners family. Since it has been in the same family since being purchased new in November of 1966 .......... it still has the original California Black and Yellow license plates as well as the original owners manual, original key, original jack and handles, most of the original Toyota tools (pictured) and even the original hand crank that allows you to turn the engine over by hand. The original hand tools fit nicely in the locking tool box beneath the drivers seat. This is like a great barn find ...... only better .......... because this FJ has always been kept in running order and has never just sat for any extended period of time. Even the small additions to this FJ are vintage now. Things like a towing hitch receiver in the rear ....... and one on the front ........ a very handy item ..........or the vintage metal thermometer mounted inside the windshield on the passenger side. Everywhere you look inside this FJ ...... you see something cool and functional. In order to take the many photos of this Land Cruiser that you will see, we simply fired it up and did what this Toyota does better than anything else from it's era ....... we took it for a drive around some of the California high desert backroads near the Joshua Tree National Park. It starts easily and drives like a much newer vehicle. The inline 6 engine is strong and the 3 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. As you will see in the many photos we took this week ....... this FJ40 has not been restored .......... and is as close to original used condition as you could hope to find ........... after all it is 46 years old! ............ When you see a sticker placed in the interior or in the engine compartment ....... it is original!......... The front seat upholstery is in bad shape but it is all original. The rear jump seats are in very good condition considering again they are original. The current owner is certain the hard-top has never been removed from this FJ. He remembers the very top cap being removed and painted many years ago ....... but the metal top was left intact. The exterior white paint is original. All of the original badges seem to be intact and in place. You will see some surface rust in the photos we took but we could not find any deep rust or body cancer anywhere on this Land Cruiser. When it resided in Northern California, it was garage kept and since it has been kept both inside and outside in the Southern California high desert it has rarely been exposed to rain or salt on any roads. So? ......... What is the bad news about this 1966 FJ40 Land Cruiser? ............ There is not much to report and I am not kidding.......... If I were going to drive it any distance (more than 50 miles) I would replace the tires and change the fluids .......... but that is about it. The rest of this vehicle is in original and working condition as the photos show. The question is what is a 1966 FJ40 Land Cruiser in this condition worth in today's market? ......... I see people asking big prices for Land Cruiser's that are not in this original of condition (over $15,000.00 in some cases) ......... but we will leave the value of this one up to you ....... our eBay customers. We will start the bidding at a single Benjamin Franklin and we will sell it with NO RESERVE to the high bidder. TERMS of SALE: We require a $2,000.00 deposit within 48 hours of the Auction end and we require full payment within 7 days of the Auction end without exception. PayPal is fine for the deposit but not the balance. For the balance we would prefer a Bank to Bank wire-transfer or you can overnight mail or FedEx a check if you prefer. The winning bidder will pay a one time document fee of $129.00 in addition to the high bid price. This Land Cruiser will not be released until our Bank is satisfied that it has received good funds ........ no matter who your daddy is! SHIPPING: Any needed shipping will be at buyers expense and direction. We will assist you by delivering this Land Cruiser to the shipper of your choice anywhere within 75 miles of Yucca Valley, California. We will store this Land Cruiser for up to 30 days without charge (after it has been paid in full) so that you can arrange a time to come and pick it up. Delivery to you for a fee (after it is paid in full) may be possible ........ and should be discussed before you bid and not after. WARRANTIES: As always we have done our best to describe this vehicle ........ in addition to furnishing 130 plus photographs to show the actual condition ........ but we are selling a 46 year old vehicle that has traveled almost 51,000 miles, so we are selling it with NO WARRANTIES expressed or implied. We are advertising this FJ locally so I would not hold back on your bidding or you will likely find it already sold. You have been told.
