Vehicle Detail
1979 Pontiac Trans Am, 403, auto, ps, pb, power windows. Looks good, runs good, transmissions shifts smooth. I bought this car 2 yrs ago as a project car, but I no longer have the space or the funds to keep 4 vehicles insured and maintained. Car came from Texas where it was bought and kept until I purchased. Thus it is very solid. Previous owner had engine and transmission rebuilt in 2008 and car has approximently 1200 miles since rebuild. Is showing 77,495 on odometer. Believed to be actual, but it is a 33 yr old car. Undercarriage clean and painted (removed old Zbart) and coated inside of frame and frame rails with Eastwood internal frame coating . Did replace small area under rear passengers seat (approximently 8"x10"used rear floor pan from another 79 TA) Way too many new items on car to list but heres a few: New Radiator, New Pypes stainless exhaust, new leaf springs and coil springs along with 4 new shocks and sub-frame connectors from pro touring f-body, new carpet, seats reupholstered, year one 8" snowflakes, rebuilt steering box and power steering pump, new Holley 600 carb, Kenwood stereo with 500 watt amp, new mini torq starter, all belts and hoses, new endurashine Edelbrock intake, new gas tank and sending unit, new fuel pump, new water pump, master cylinder and much more. All the body to frame mounts have been replaced with new ones from pro touring f body. This isn't a hundred point show car but is a very respectable driver that would be great for local cruise ins or local car shows. I've got over 7k in parts. The car came with air conditioning but did not blow cold when I got it. I removed AC components and brackets when installing intake. Have all the components to go back. When we patched the rear floor pan, I removed all the interior except the dash. Besides the one area already mentioned, the floor was in great shape except for some minor surface rust. To preserve, I took a wire brush on a drill and sandpaper and cleaned the entire floor / transmission tunnel and treated surface rust with rust converter and then rust encapsulator over entire interior floor. I did this not because it was bad, but because it was so solid I wanted to preserve it. The metal around the rear glass, which is prone to rust on these cars, was extremely solid. As far as the body and paint, not perfect but a respectable 20 footer. I took a picture of the drivers rear quarter to show an area which appears to have had some body work. I dont know the extent of the actual repair, but when I painted the inside of trunk, I could not detect ANY signs of a weld or seam like the quarter had been patched, but there is a very SLIGHT crack in the paint from the rear marker light to the rear wheel opening. As well as the slight "bubble" in the paint. In the two years I've owned this car this place hasn't gotten any worse whatsoever and I suspect it was just not prepped good before getting spray. I had the front shocks and springs installed by a local front end shop. When they were installed I asked them to inspect the front end components and they said everything looked fine. I have heard a kind of squeak since then which they said is the new springs settling in. There is also a little play in the steering, which I suspect could either be in the rag joint or the steering box itself, although the steering box was rebuilt by a reputable business. As far as the instruments, the speedo, tach, clock, fuel, voltage all work. The water temp did not work right even after replacing sending unit so I installed a Autometer Mechanical guage which does work. Sometimes the oil pressure guage works, sometimes not. I suspect its the wiring since I replaced oil pressure sending unit. There is a small "horseshoe shaped" crack in the front windsheild which has remained stable (pictured). Could use new weather seals for side glass and the back glass does leak a little as well. It didn't when I bought the car so I suspect the seal has simply dried and cracked. THE GOOD, the transmission shifts smooth as silk, the "numbers matching" motor runs good and does not smoke or have any leaks. My garage floor is clean as a pen where the car is parked. When I got the car the oil pan leaked a little so I replaced it with a steel re-enforced one. The motor was extremely clean looking inside. Also includes origial owners manual and glove box literature as well as dealers delivery invoice. I have both visors that came with the car, was going to get them re-upholstered and never got around to it, but they are here. I have tried to be honest in my description. I have been accused of being overly so, but that's the way I like to be treated. The car is probably far nicer than many that has fewer flaws described. But, it is a 33 year old car so is being sold AS IS. I will try to answer any questions, but please dont wait till the last hour or two of the auction. Inspections are welcome and encouraged, however, I do work shift work, so please make arrangements with me prior to any inspections so I can work with you.
