Vehicle Detail
This is a real "Classic" 1979 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL, the extra long W-116, with the extended-shock absorber bumper. 1979 was the last year this vehicle was produced. Car has only 158,973 miles. The exterior is dark red with palimino interior, a rare combination, but there are still a few around. The paiint is original, but it is 33 years old, with some fading. The interior is in "remarkably" good condition, with only one small tear in the drivers seat. The wood dash and wood console is, likewise, in "remarkably" good condition, no opened cracks...just a couple hair-lines that have not opened up, and hardly noticeable. The body has only several small parking nicks, and the right-front bumper guard is broken and needs to be replaced. The right-rear power window does not work. The power locks do not work. Front window SEAL is cracking. Hood padding needs replacement. Cruise Control is not working. Rear Antenna is not working. Windshield washer is not working. Spare Tire is a Michelin, however it is a slightly different size than the other 4 new tires, but is nonetheless a good spare. Chrome Wheels are showing some minor tarrnish in some areas. The speedometer and odometer are working, however, the (tenths) don't move, but the whole miles are registering accurately. While most of the items are minor, I believe the buyer is entitled to know what the seller knows about the vehicle, in detail, and that's only fair, and it's called honesty and full disclosure. The engine and transmission are in good operating condition. Fast idle is irregular and needs attention. Sometime when hot, it may not start on the first try...just being honest...no surprises-OK. Steering feels a little loose, and may need power steering work. Car does not need anything major, to my knowledge. As you can see, I am representing the car as honest as I can. After all...any 33 year old car usually needs something...let's face it! And if this car didn't need anything...I would be asking $12,000 to $16,000, and wouldn't take less. Get my point! At the same time, this car is not a $1,500 to $2,500 car either...in my opinion...but the currrent market will determine the value of this car. The good news is: This is the right car for someone who is looking for a "real nice" one, like I was 3 years ago, and I picked this one, over the others, because I saw it's ultimate potential, with a little effort. I purchased this car on eBay over 3 years ago, and have been fixing it up ever since. The interior is "exceptionally" nice...trust me! This is a California Car with no-rust. Comes with Original Owners Manuals and 3 Original Keys. New Michelin Tires with just a few thousand miles. New Battery. Replaced foam in rear seat. Replaced Alternator. Replaced Air Pump and AP Belt. Serviced Air Conditioner, and it blows "cold air". Replaced Spark Plugs Replaced Fuel Filter Replaced Rear Sway Bar Links Replaced Windshield Wipers California License Plate Tags are current until April 2013 I have all receipts for parts and/or service for the above mentioned items (some work I did myself, and only have receipt for part). I have a few other receipts from a previous owner. What is this car worth? Well, it's only worth what a person is willing to pay for it, at any given time, like anything else! I bought it with intentions of bringing it up to prestine condition, but it's not there yet, and being retired, I'm not able to put as much money into it, as fast as I had hoped, by now. If it sells for a decent amount, then I will let it go...if not, then I will probably keep it and turn it into a longer than anticpated project. I will be changing the oil and filter and having the brakes checked, and serviced if necessary. According to Maintenance Booklet, vehicle was purchased from Downtown L. A. Motors Mercedes Benz, by a person living in Pasadena, California. Other evidence shows an owner in Palm Desert, California. And, the present owner is in Palmdale, California.
