Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is the iconic star of the cult classic, The Blues Brothers. A 1974 Dodge Monaco 4 door sedan built with a goal to re-create the screen Bluesmobile as accurately as possible. A number of Bluesmobile replicas have been created, but rarely are they as screen authentic as this one. Most importantly, this Bluesmobile tribute started with the exact model used in the movie-a 74 Monaco sedan. The interior color is also true to the flick as it too is tan. It also features a two tone, black and tan steering wheel, as seen in the movie. Cool details are everywhere- a real California Highway Patrol pushbumper was fashioned and modified to resemble the part in the movie. There is a Unity S-6 spotlight, finished in chrome, fully functional and mounted on the driver side A-pillar. A very rare piece of Bluesmobile memorabilia is also part of this build-the Craig model S601-the exact 8 track player used in the movie hero shots. It is mounted just like the one in Jake and Ellwood's car-hacked right into the dash vent area! This Bluesmobile is painted very close to the screen viewed car-black and white, of course with carefull attention paid to the door jambs-some are black and some are white-as seen on screen. Additionally, the worn and distressed graphics where carefully applied to replicate the distinctive livery that identifies the iconic movie hero. The scraped stars, the scuffed, "To Serve and Protect" and the big P1 are all right where they should be. The Monaco was painted with quality paint that was weathered to match the "Mission from God" chariot. An nice replica Chicago Bluesmobile plate(BDR529) is fitted, of course with patina. This particular Monaco began life as a civilian, 360, 4bbl powered sedan. As part of the transformation, a very rare Mopar Police, dual snorkel, big block air cleaner assembly was fitted and detailed with Hemi orange paint and a 440 4bbl call out. Even though this car remains a 360 4bbl(Thermoquad), the air cleaner makes most that view the car believe the mighty cop 440 is in place. The 360 4bbl is a fine motor in its own right and with the Thermoquad, it even displays the distinctive Mopar roar under acceleration. It was a one owner, California car since new-with the original California pink slip and blue/yellow plates. Sometime long ago in the cars past, the original driver's door was damaged. Incredibly, it was replaced with an authentic 1974 California Highway Patrol car door(DK41U)-what are the odds of that? Another vital part of this Blumo is the real police 140mph, certified speedometer. Very difficult to source, this is the actual instrument fitted to 74 Monaco cop cars-and the Bluesmobile. One of the most memorable scenes in the Blues Brothers, is when Jake and Ellwood fit a large air raid siren to the roof of the Bluesmobile to promote their concert to save the orphanage. This Bluesmobile will include a very good replica of that siren. One of the better representations of this siren, this piece will need to be fitted by the new owner, but will be included with the sale of the car. In short, this is one very accurate Bluesmobile. This car is not perfect of course and will need a few things. The car does have a fair bit of miles on it. It does run and drive pretty well and has been given a recent tune-up(plugs, wires, filters and oil change). It goes down the road OK and brakes well. While a very solid car with nice floorpans and frame, it appears to have had some rust repairs in the trunk and a few other areas at some point. All the glass is good, with a new windshield fitted. The seat upholstery is fresh as is the carpet(chosen for its resemblance to the cop car flooring). The door panels have been dyed to match the screen shots and the wood grain coated(still show some wear, however), the dash is in pretty good shape with just a few cracks-very close to the condition of the movie dash. The headliner is usable, but has a few tears/repairs. The car has numerous dings/scuffs,etc-true to the spirit of the movie car. The AC is non-functioning. The 8-track is mounted, but currently non-functional. There may be other gauges that are non-functional, too. The lights, inside and out work, as does the warning buzzer. Don't miss this opportunity to own a very good replica of a screen legend. Bid to win, sold "AS IS", of course. On Jun-30-12 at 21:47:10 PDT, seller added the following information: A couple alterations to the appearance of this Bluesmobile have been made. Thanks to a few Bluesmobile experts we were informed that the original Bluesmobile would not have had bumperettes, a left turn signal lens and that the steering wheel would not have been the CHP spec black and tan unit, but, instead, all tan. These corrections have been made and this Bluesmobile's appearance is now even more accurate.
