Vehicle Detail
For Sale is a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass S (indicates fastback), rebuilt as a 442 clone (just without the badges.) Reads 34528 miles (tho mileage is exempt on clear Florida title.) Correct Matador Red exterior color, perfect Black Vinyl Top, completely redone Black interior, including carpet and headliner. Bucket seats, console automatic. Body is RUST FREE as far I can tell. This includes the chassis as well. Rockers, floor pans and frame are in really great condition. Previous owner had car for 13 years and redid the car as a full blown muscle car after he got it in 1999. Body is straight, straight, straight! Panel fit is excellent. Magnets stick EVERYWHERE, so this confirms that car was in great shape when he got it. Paint is very very good DRIVER quality paint. Shines like crazy, but a couple normal nicks and blemishes keep it from being a perfect paint job. He had the car garaged 13 years and only drove it a couple Sundays to car shows. That's all! Car was born with a 350, but now has a correct Olds 455. It has a correct heavy duty Turbo Hydramatic 400 auto transmission. The car is an air conditioned car with a completely correct and working GM system. A/C was coverted to R134 by previous owner, and I just had the system serviced and charged last week. It works great and is blowing cold! Car has 15" Rallye Wheels, I believe from a '74, correct style for the car and year, very desireable over the stock 14" wheels and offering a much wider selection of tire choices. Car has 235/60's up front and 275/60 series in back and has a great stance! Car also has the stock radio still in dash, but a nice aftermarket Sony head unit was professionally mounted in glove compartment, and Kenwood speakers in the rear package tray. I bought car 3 months ago and began immediately correcting/fixing things: -Complete new axle bearing kit, pinion bearing and rear end rebuild. Rear end made noise when I got it. The spider gears in an open differential were worn. Replaced that housing with a correct professionally reconditioned 8.2 GM 2 series Positraction limited slip unit (2.73 gears-still real torquey off line, but great for 80 MPH highway cruising at low RPM's) -Professional rebuild of the Edelbrock 750 4 bbl. carburetor -Installation of correct Olds Hurst Dual Gate shifter, new cable, new console insert plates. More fun to drive and makes the car even more desirable! -My mechanic has done work on the suspension, brakes, steering, timing, etc. all to freshen up car after sitting most of the last 10 years -Installed correct 442 rally steering wheel taking off aftermarket steering wheel that was on there -Brand new BF Goodrich radial TA front tires and front end allignment I love classic muscle cars, and I love this car. I was fixing it to keep, and was finishing the car as the 442 clone the previous owner had intended, but ran out of time or money to complete. But I have a number of cars, this was the last one I got, and now business developments dictate I should sell a car to fund a new effort. I also have a 1 1/4" hi-rise aluminum intake and HEI 50,000 volt distributor that I have not had a chance to install yet, so those also will come with the car, and will really allow the engine to spark and breathe even better! The car is a classic muscle car, beautiful in its appearance and condition. Not a 100% perfect yet, but getting real close. I am very particular about my cars, and I like them right. This car has SO much going for it, looks and mechanics and solid performance. As with any 40 year old car, this is not a new car in any way, and the restoration is 13 years old. But, across the board....chrome, upholstery, paint, body, undercarriage, tires and the complete interior including headliner and carpet are VERY VERY good and you should be impressed that the car is in way above average driver quality condition. Fun car to own and more fun to show and drive! The car is a clone of the 442, one of the cars that epitomize the best GM muscle cars ever made. Please consider the improvements, the upgrades that have been made to this beautiful, straight Cutlass S car to take a stock Cutlass and develop it to the standards set by the 442's that pull $25-$35,000 everywhere they sell. And many I've seen are not in half the condition of this car! Have the car you are looking for, even put the 442 badges on if you wantLfor about HALF the price of this car if it were a real 442. The car also has heavy duty suspension components found on the 442, heavy duty springs, the front sway/stabilizer bar, 442 Thermoplastic inner front fenderwells, and a complete true dual exhaust. Any questions, feel free to contact me. Car is sold as is, where is. Come test drive if you are local. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. (P.S.)
