Vehicle Detail
My dad bought this car in 1959. We used it on the farm for every imaginable task that a seven, eleven and fifteen year olds could come up with. It was stored in the barn, and it remained there until 1977 when we decided to "restore" it. We moved the car from the barn to the shop and took the body off the frame. We cleaned and painted the frame, and re-installed the axles, engine and running gear. In 1981 the "restoration" abruptly ceased, so we put the body back on it and we dove it, (about 20 miles), to my home. With the exception of an occasional jaunt around the farm, it has been in my basement ever since. Most of the paint has been sanded off with 40 grit paper. Some areas got primed and some did not. There is much surface rust, but most it should clean up for primer and color. The deck lid does have considerable surface rust and it does have a hole in it, (see picture of lid with screwdriver in it). It may need a skin. The main part of the body is solid with the exception of the passenger side lower rear quarter. It is rusted through, and it might be easier to put a patch panel on it rather than repairing the damage. Inside the trunk, it would be easier to replace the curved inner panel and the floor panel rather than straightening the old ones. It also has a few dents that need to be worked. An accomplished body man should be able to straighten these out in a few hours. It also has a few stress cracks in and around the door jambs. These should be easily repaired with a MIG. During all the moves and years, we have lost many parts. I will try to list the major ones; 1) all the glass except the passenger side door, 2) windshield and frame, 3) sunvisor, 4) seat springs, 5) speedometer, 6) windshield wiper 7) many small parts such as inside door handles, window handles and interior trim metal. If a person is interested in restoring it, you should also count on replacing both rear brake drums complete with the hubs. This could be a good restoration project especially if you have a bunch of good used parts. It would also be good hot rod material. I have tried to be as forthcoming as possible about the condition of the old car. If you have further questions, email me and I will supply you with a truthful answer. I would like to see someone make something out of the old car, but please, only bid on it if you are willing to follow through with a completed sale. I will require a $500.00 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of the end of the auction. Balance to be paid by Cashier's Check acceptable to my bank when you pick the car up. Post Script: The car has a clean, unencumbered Tennessee title; it has 17" wheels and tires, (probably off a 33 or 34 ford); if your in the neighborhood, come by and take a look, and drive it around the farm. It will also need a patch panel between the headlight bar on one of the front fenders.
