Nice 1977 Mercedes Benz 400 SL series Sport coupe. This is a 450 SL C, NOT a 380. It has lived in California all of its life since the early 1980s. These rare hardtops were made in a very limited number. 121K miles. Desirable 4.5L engine, automatic, Power windows, AC, Power sunroof and brand-new battery. AMG wheels. I purchased this Mercedes in December of 2011 for $3950 from the original owner, as a surprise christmas gift for my wife ( unfortunately, it did not work out quite as I had anticipated, and she ended up with a 10' C350 instead). It has been garaged for the last five months, as I had been planning to just keep it and restore it for fun, but it has been taking up space in one of the garages and I am now paying for a storage facility to keep the car in nearby. Regretfully, I have decided to list it up for sale. I am selling it at a loss at a low, reasonable $2950. I paid nearly $4000 for the car, plus I spent $1000 on a set of used AMG wheels w/ nice radial tires ( new AMG wheels are about that much EACH by itself). I also had a brand-new battery installed for just about $200, a new driver's window regulator AND the driver's door glass. I am asking for considerably less than what I have invested, and much cheaper than anything else similar listed here. Remember that this SLC has the desirable 4.5L SOHC 8 cyl. engine, not the weaker 3.8L. These engines are nearly bulletproof, and last for an extraordinarily long time. It runs and drives well, with plenty of power as a 4.5L should ( unlike the anemic 3.8L engines). No internal noises, knocks or engine rattles. It runs an normal operating temperature ( right in the center of the gauge) at about 180 degrees, and maintains full oil pressure from the beginning. A very strong running powertrain overall. Brand-new battery. Replaced Alternator and rebuilt starter. The body is remarkably straight, with no dents or accidents. I would assume that the car was probably refinished once before, as it looks too good for a Mercedes 35 years old, in its original steel-blue color. Original dark-blue leather upholstery interior is clean, with average usage as expected. One worn spot of the outer bolster in lower backrest of the driver's seat from getting in and out. Rare factory MBZ LEATHER interior, not Tex-Tan. Power windows. Power sunroof and factory A/C. Overall, a nice, rare original unrestored SLC, with the super 4.5L engine. It is being listed here with a modest opening bid, much less than my original investment. Payment is to be received within THREE business days of the end of the auction, please.
