Vehicle Detail

1972 Volvo P1800 ‘E’ A Stunning Example We are very sad to sell this one. It’s a shining example of one of the neatest cars ever made. It’s about as good as it gets for a driver…. Almost show condition. It is immaculate through and through, runs & drives beautifully and needs nothing. Considered the best 1800 ever made, the ’72 ‘E’ has the newer ‘ES’ leather interior, a 2.0 liter B20 Bosche fuel-injected 128hp engine with 5 speed overdrive, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning and other amenities rarely found on sports cars of it’s day. It’s a blast to drive, pulls well and loves twisty roads. It gets about 25 MPG and cruises nicely on the highway at 75mph in overdrive. Try that with any other vintage collector car. It’s an understatement to say that this car gets a lot of attention… it sometimes draws a small crowd when parked. Specs & accessories: 1972 Volvo P1800E Light Metallic Blue, VIN 1826353037677 141K original miles B20 W 128HP Bosche D-Jetronic Fuel-injected 2.0 engine with overdrive Manual transmission with electronic overdrive 4-Wheel Disc Brakes Black leather “ES” interior with blue carpet Voxx Volvo wheels with new tires Air-conditioning Egg-crate grille (have standard as well) Viper 2 –way alarm system (remote alert) Alpine CD-MP3 stereo system Always maintained & babied. Consistent preventative maintenance. Freshly rebuilt engine & thousands of dollars recently invested. Parts are restored to factory specifications and with genuine Volvo parts.Tuned by 30-year veteran Volvo mechanic. - 4K miles on professionally rebuilt engine - new interior - new tires - new brake rotors & pads –- new heater core – Injection system overhaul – over $9000 dollars in shop receipts since 5/09 - - Everything has been dealt with and the car runs beautifully - Condition is gorgeous. West Coast car all it’s life…so very little rust anywhere. You would have a hard time finding a nicer example. Metallic light blue, paint is nice, bright & glossy but the last re-spray wasn’t perfect. –A few tiny imperfections (tiny bubbles around the left quarter panel area) and a couple of touched-up chips. No dings, dents or scrapes anywhere. Not a single ding on the car. The interior is new and looks fantastic. No dash-pads or aftermarket fixes. Restored to original. The interior even smells like a new car. Flaws: We have done everything necessary to remedy any noticeable flaws but in the interest of disclosure: 1) A single dash-light bulb behind the oil temp gauge is out. This never bothered me enough to fix. 2) There are some very fine scratches (that won't show up in a photo) on some of the original metal trim pieces around the windows. 3) The rubber gasket surround on the reverse light shows age. Most other rubber has been replaced. The undercarriage could use a recoating if you were picky. Everything else works fine & looks great. With a small investment & a little work, this car could be a show competitor but we think its best use is driving. You’ll love it. One of the last and best Volvo 1800’s ever made… Hemmings Collector Cars March 2008 “For today's collector, there's an 1800 for every taste and budget. While prices have been rising over the past couple of years, the cars are still affordable, with presentable examples selling for as little as $4,000, and the best restorations commanding as much as $50,000. According to Don Thibault, who has specialized in the 1800 for more than two decades, the D-Jetronic equipped 1800E and the original 6,000 Jensen coupes tend to have the highest values. Don restores and sells 1800s from his Cape Cod shop, and offers a wide catalog of parts. "Every car I sell is over $25,000, and I usually have five people fighting for it," he said. He cautioned that restorations can become expensive. "I get customers who spend $30,000 and $40,000 restoring these cars. You could easily spend 10 grand on the body, three to four grand on the rechroming, four grand on the interior--it adds up quickly." As a daily driver, the 1800 is just about unbeatable, thanks to its durability, parts availability, and performance that allows it to keep up with modern cars. "The Volvo P1800 is perhaps the only vintage car that can still be driven on a daily basis even today," said Irv Gordon, who ought to know--he's been driving his 1800S every day since he bought it new in 1966, putting a staggering 2.6 million miles on the car. In case you're wondering, yes, that is a world record, one that's recognized by the folks at Guinness -http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2008/03/01/hmn_feature23.html Payment: A $500 Paypal or check deposit is required immediately from the buyer after the auction. Paypal will take too large a chunk of the sale, so we need a check (held until clear) or wire transfer before we release the car. We may cancel bids from low or negative feedback buyers….so please contact us first before you bid to make us aware of the situation. The car is currently registered in California, all tags are up to date & we have the pink slip. The car is smog-exempt and never needs smog tests/certification….although it would pass! It’s located at our house in San Francisco and needs to be picked up here, whether by you or your agent for shipping. All shipping is arranged and paid for by the buyer. Thanks & Happy bidding, -Chris & Jen
