Vehicle Detail

This auction is for one (of two) barn finds I found in my barn. The starting bid is very low because the car is not running and is very rusty. It would be possible (perhaps better) to replace much of its' sheet metal - and those parts are available at fair prices here in California - or on eBay. Engine parts are easy - and there is a great network of dedicated Edsel lovers (kinda like me) who would love to give you advice every step of the way. The front clip is the same as a Ranger or Pacer which were produced in much-much-much greater numbers ... so there's your front end ! ... swap out another front end from California (or Western) sources --- eBay can also help with that. Only 1,456 six-passenger Bermudas were made for the 1958 model year - another 779 nine-passenger Bermudas were made for the same model year. The Bermuda is the most desirable of all 1958 wagons unless you want a two-door wagon - also desirable but with less bells & whistles. The Bermuda is the King of Edsel wagons. Sunset Coral is a very desirable color for Edsels of the 1958 model year - very 1950's - the best! People will say it's pink ! There are likely less than five (maybe three) road worthy Sunset Coral ones in existence (in the world) with some outside the USA. I bought this car from a family in Missouri, who had it there its' entire working life. It was there --- a great partner --- as it helped raise a family every step of the way. The owner fell ill and had to sell it. The car really has a nice story. The owner's brother-in-law bought the car in 1957 and found he was financially over-extended. He asked his wife's brother if he could take over payments and he did ... the rest ... for this car is "history". It stayed with them and was loved and "VERY VERY USED" its' entire life. It's not in us Edsel guys' online Edsel Registry ... You can find the registry here http://www.edsel.com/registry/index.html and you can click along to figure out for yourself how many Sunset Coral Bermudas are road worthy. I used to own a modified one - but I (a true Edsel guy) have never seen another Sunset Coral one in person ... period ... end of story ... it's a super rare and desirable wagon color for 1958 ... probably the #1 preference depending on your taste! I have other parts to help you - sell you - as I once owned over ten Bermudas. When you think of this car - think it needs A LOT of rust repair and removal ... A LOT ... did I say A LOT? I bought this car in 2004 from the gentleman in Columbia, IL. I drove the car about five miles - it ran well - but I tell you the truth - it was more rust than I wanted to work with right then. I had too many cars, and a busy insurance agency, and I never tried to start it again - or begin to restore it. Depending on how much of the work you did yourself - you could have positive equity in it since you are going to get it for a small percentage of the money I paid for it. It will be worth $7,500 running ... $15,000 with the body repair done and driving ... and it would top out at $35,000 if you made it into a #1 condition car. This car will start at $500 minimum bid and no reserve. I will answer any and all questions as honestly as I am able. Some things I don't know - and I'll honestly say so. My cell is (916) 952-5402. I'll stop the auction if you have a fair buy-it-now price. I want the buyer to be happy. I won't misrepresent the car in any way. Please know that this is a real "project". It's not for the faint of heart. $500 PayPal deposit due within 48 hours after close of auction. I will assist your chosen shipper. I wish you good luck and I hope you can make it once again road worthy and the pretty car it can again be. I kind of miss the ole' girl already. On Jun-08-12 at 14:04:17 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE NOTE NOTE I won't be taking any "buy-it-now offers" on this car. The auction will run its' full seven days. There are 100 people who have this little Bermuda on their watch-list. Good Luck. Steve Luth NOTE NOTE NOTE On Jun-11-12 at 01:27:40 PDT, seller added the following information: ***** I've been asked a few times about the floors (and rust). That seems to be the among first places rust goes on these - and I felt around and under - and it seems this car (no surprise) has significant rust there which needs to be removed and repared. The original owner did some functional repair around the gas pedal. This has among the best historic look you'll ever get of a factory original Sunset Coral rubber mat floor covering. Edsel historians will want this preserved if nothing more than for its' sizes & dimensions. It's time-capsule stuff. ... Good luck --- the auction will run its' course and end tonight. *****
