Vehicle Detail

Hello fellow Ebayer,For your consideration is my sweet little 1971 Volvo 164. I obtained this car a number of years ago, intending to spend some time with it in restoration. After these eight or ten years, little has been done, my garage is getting smaller, and although it still pulls at my heart, it must go. The owner before me had been driving it without issue until he parked it due to getting a newer ride. It sat a few years that way. When I got it, I got it running by cleaning the carbs(it has two carbs) and repairing some loose wiring. I replaced quite a few of the steel and rubber brake lines. The fuel tank was rusted out, so I bought a used tank and did a fairly extensive cleaning, treatment, sealing process to it before installing it in the car. I replaced some of the fuel line and the filter. I changed the oil. I installed wheels and tires from a 1984 Volvo 760. I installed a new battery last year. I installed new Bosch spark plugs and a coil-to-distributor wire this week. I drive the car very little, and usually for very short distances. Like around the block. The engine runs very well, and pulls powerfully. It starts very well if it is run every few days, but it can be a bear to start after a few months in the garage. At one point I put some new o-rings in the carbs to keep the fuel from leaking out of the bowls. Usually the car starts fine if it only sits a day or two. The fuel pump is working well. The radiator fan clutch is seized, so the fan always runs the speed of the engine. Not a problem, only annoying. The transmission is a manual four speed, and shifts well. The clutch seems to be good, although it is a bit stiff. Cosmetically, the car needs some help. There is a good bit of old age rust many places around the lower parts of the car, and at sharp paint corners, like a door edge. The car has been repainted at some point, and it is evident that they used some body filler at some places. It needs some elbow grease, as they say. The interior is actually pretty OK, especially the seats. The interior was redone when the car was painted. The seats seem to be vinyl, and are in super shape. The carpeting has been a treat for mice, so it has some bad areas. The issue I was working on most recently was the lighting. Some of the running lights do not work. I attempted to trace through some of the wires, but the job did me in. I'll let you fool with that. Sometimes some of them work, etc. The other thing that needs a little attention is some of the suspension bushings and joints. I would love to spend time on this car, but it is not priority for me. The 164 was designed well, and it's lines and shape are beautiful. These earliest models had the big grill up front to remind you of a Rolls. I'm looking for someone who wants to have some fun with this car, to ride it into the future...
