Vehicle Detail
This is the Grand Prix you've been waiting for. I've owned this car for about 5 years and am only selling it because I'm retiring and downsizing to a place with a one-car garage. This is a California car and no way would I even think of keeping this baby outdoors in Ohio. Car history: This car was sold by Sondeno Pontiac in Oakdale, California to a couple in Modesto, California who owned it until July 2007, at which time I purchased the car with the original mileage at about 69,000. The original build sheet, PHS documentation, including window sticker, GM’s Factory OEM Shop Manual for the 1972 Pontiac lineup, quite a nice collection of historical info and advertising, and a car cover are included with the sale of the car. Think "ORIGINAL": I can't claim this car is 100% numbers matching because I haven't pulled every numbered part, but I am only the 2nd owner of the car and to my knowledge, everything truly is original. I'm not a mechanic and have had any necessary work done by professionals. There has been no need to replace the original Rochester Quadra-Jet carb, no replacement radio like you see on so many, and no foreign gauges…this is all original. Features: From the window sticker: power steering, power disc brakes, remote trunk opener, door edge guards, body color outside rear view mirrors with left-hand remote, Rally II wheels, tilt steering wheel ($45 in 1972!), pushbutton AM radio, and power windows. I’ve included the primary photos, but am happy to provide any SERIOUS potential buyer with specific photos as requested and, of course, welcome anyone to check the car out in person. What's been done: the vinyl top and carpeting were replaced, and the car was repainted its original Quezal Gold. Other work/parts replaced: pinion bearings, pinion bearing races, corner bearings, corner races, harmonic balancer, drive shaft balanced, upper/lower ball joints, upper/lower control arm bushings, front/rear shocks, rear spring seats, rear control arm bushings, stabilizer links, transmission bushing and seal, tail shaft gasket, fuel filter, carb kit, float, new spark plugs, remanufactured distributor, passenger door lock set, ignition wire set, wire dividers, rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket set, oil pump gasket, front main seal, vbelts, power steering gearbox, master cylinder, remove and rebuild transmission, replace intake manifold, valley pan and distributor base gaskets, new starter, new tires, new battery. Today: the car has 75,000 miles and, as you can imagine, judging by the work that’s been done…it handles and drives like it must have on day 1 and is a total head-turner (there are lots of early 70’s G-T-O’s etc. around today, but not that many beautiful Grand Prix’s). The Morrokide upholstery is in like-new condition, the black dash is pristine, I’ve added period correct Pontiac floor mats, the headliner has no issues other than some color fading, the trunk is leak-free and looks great. The dual-gate transmission (advertised back then as “His ‘n Hers) lets you run through the gears if you want. The a/c blows cold. The power windows all work very well. Issues I’m aware of: there are two small dings on the driver’s side door, the clock does not work, the fuel gauge works, but a full tank registers as one-quarter full (just fill ‘er up before you hit one-eighth), and the transmission leaks a few drops of fluid (only while being driven) where the speedo cable connects; I’ve had this looked at by two tranny shops and both have said the configuration from the speedo driven gear to the cable connection is something they’ve never seen before and does not match the shop manual drawings…both also said GM was known for changing the game mid season to save money. I have been unable to locate replacement parts, but it’s not a big deal since we’re talking about a very minor leak.
