Vehicle Detail

This auction is for an all original, unrestored 1939 Plymouth pickup truck that was removed from 35 years of undisturbed shed storage. It's reasonably complete, needs a lot of work, but has a lot to offer. I've listed below what I consider to be the primary good points and bad points. Good: Box sides not too bad, dash gages unbroken, transmission still shifts, doors solid and reasonably straight, has a heater, floor appears to be very solid, overall the cab is very decent - roof and rear panel not dented, rockers and cab corners look solid too. The grille is good, hood is good, front still has the very hard to find "Plymouth" insignia on both sides, has original seat springs. Looks complete under the hood. Fenders and running boards are present and might all be useable. Even has unbroken spotlight! Negatives: At this point the engine appears to be stuck, the tailgate and front box panel may be useable but aren't in great condition, at some point the rear bumper and surrounding area has been modified - I don't think these trucks had bumpers originally. Original tail lights are missing, wood and metal strips are completely missing from the box floor and it just has an old piece of plywood sitting in it. Box is a little crooked and loose too. All glass is missing as kids smashed the windows out years ago. However, the window regulators are still in the doors and all glass is just flat glass. The right fender and headlight are just sitting in place, had been removed years ago. Fenders have all had dings tapped out of them and still have more, some rust too, rear fenders need a lot of work and it may be easiest to find replacements (I'm told Dodge fenders of this era are the same). Also, the header panel over the windshield on the interior has rust-out due to small furry critters (mice) having built nests in that area. Could be patched or replaced. Tires are very old, mismatched, but do hold air! The truck does have an open clear title, with matching VIN to the truck, in a past owner's name, dated from 1987 so should still be good (no promises, probably depends on your state). Plymouth trucks of this vintage are extremely rare and this truck deserves proper restoration. However, the all-original patina of the outer body would suggest a very neat "rat rod" as a possibility too! Truck must be picked up within two weeks from end of auction unless other arrangements are made in advance - I rent inside storage for it.On May-11-12 at 10:32:36 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had some questions on rust issues so I tried to load additional pictures, uploads kept failing, so I'll try later but to describe the rust-out, it's as follows from what I can see. The right front fender has a rusted area near where it meets the running board, as does the left front. I think these could be patched without a lot of effort, but there are holes there. The running boards also have started to rust out where the braces attach - not severely, but there are small holes. The right rear fender needs a lot of work, mostly from denting, cracking and tearing more than from rust. The left rear is better but still needs a lot of work. The right front fender has a slit in it, about 8 inches long, not from rust but it looks like it was just cut or jabbed, doesn't look hard to fix. All in all, there aren't all that many real rust-through areas although once dismantled and sandblasted I'm sure a person would find more. But it is an old work truck, was probably well-used, so does have it's share of dings/dents/etc. to address. Thanks! Tom
