Vehicle Detail
Rare, Rare, and Rare !! Up for your bidding enjoyment is a super sweet 1958 Goggomobil TS400 Coupe with rare manual floor shifter. This goggomobil needs restoration and to be in the hands of someone that can return it to its former awesomeness. VIN 02111888. These little beauties get about 50 MPG gas mileage !! Okay, here comes the cool part (and i am not a goggomobil expert, just did some serious research and called some goggomobil experts)...... What makes this particular Goggomobil so special is first of all that it is a TS400 (the coupe with the "hot rod" motor), and most of all the fact that is has a manual floor shifter (not the pre-selector transmission)....in fact my understanding is that there may only be ONE other manual floor shifting TS400 Coupe known in the united states of the TS400 Coupes that were exported to the United States back in day. This is NOT a Euro TS400 Coupe (built for only europe), this is the really rare (and super cool) one that had things like larger headlights, bumper guards, etc - specifications made just for Goggomobils headed to the good 'ole USA back in 1958. Well this is maybe your #2 - my goggomobil and microcar enthusiasts friends. I have put lots of pics and can email you more. For more questions, call Barbie at 907 590 9732. Shipping and handling is your responsibility. Buyer must pay in full within 72 hours of auction end, 500 $ deposit with 48 hours. Suicide doors (super sweet) , engine turns over by hand, does not run, she has some rust, but rolls/steers (I have some knobs and a door panel in a box not in pics, and extra parts, hoses, etc). No Reserve, oh yeah !! (P.S. - A Euro TS400 (restored) sold back in Jan 2012 for around $ 28,000 - was estimate to bring 50-60K - google RM auctions and check it out :) ) Here some history and internet stuff below. You may want to take a whirl thru the internet searching goggomobil, this is a rare one, and she needs to go to a loving home. Built in Germany between 1955 and 1969 by Hans Glas GmbH of Dingolfing, Bavaria, the Goggomobil was the most successful of the many "microcars" produced in Europe after WWII. Over 270,000 Goggomobils of various body styles were produced before the company was bought by BMW, of which about 67,000 were Coupes. The diminutive vehicle (4.5 feet wide by 10 feet long, weighing just under 1000 pounds) can allegedly seat 4, though rear seat legroom is minimal. The air-cooled engine and integral 4-speed transmission is in the rear. This car has the "big" engine option -- a 394cc, two-stroke, two cylinder powerplant, producing 20 HP (most Goggos had a 250cc engine of 13.6 HP). Top speed was about 62 mph. Note the rear-hinged doors which were a feature until 1964. Goggomobil was a series of microcars produced in the Bavarian town Dingolfing after World War II by Glas.Glas produced three models on the Goggomobil platform: the Goggomobil T sedan, the Goggomobil TS coupé, and the Goggomobil TL van. The engine was an air-cooled, two-stroke, two-cylinder unit originally displacing 250 cc, but later available in increased sizes of 300 cc and 400 cc. The engine was behind the rear wheels. Suspension was independent all round using coil springs with swing axles. Happy Bidding and enjoy. GOGGOMOBIL - I just love that name !!
