Vehicle Detail

2002 C4S Porsche, 6-speed manual, 63,630 miles. I have had this car for about 3 years now and have really enjoyed it. They really are one of the prettiest cars on the road.....but I’m buying a new car, so she has to go. This car recharges my batteries every time I drive it….and I constantly get thumbs up and have people taking pictures of the car nearly every time I drive it or park it somewhere. Of all the cars I've owned, this has been one of my favorites (great looking, trouble free, fun to drive), but since I'm trading up to a new car and I'm running out of garage space, it's time to let it go....and, as my wife says, it’s time to let someone else enjoy it now. The car has some nice upgrades and is very clean. The clutch is in excellent condition and the engine has no leaks or “weeps” and burns no oil. It has been adult driven, well cared for and not driven in the rain (the engine bay still looks like new). In addition to the standard 4S features – which are pretty extensive – the car includes Bose premium AM / FM / 6-disc CD stereo, custom wheels, Toyo Proxes tires (235/35ZR19 front, 315/25ZR19 rear), Bilstein coilover (adjustable-height) shocks, and K&N lifetime engine air filter. The wheels, tires, and coilovers were put on the car about 6000 miles ago. The car does have Porsche sport exhaust and sounds amazing. The original factory turbo twist wheels and tires are included with the car at no additional charge. Also included is a factory car cover, Porsche service manuals on CD, a trickle battery charger, and new spare filters still in the box. If you’d like more detailed photos (eBay doesn’t appear to allow for large size photos), send me a note through eBay and I’ll forward those to you. Kelley Blue Book lists this car’s value at $28,318 to $31,518 for the private party price range and $25,403 to $28,453 for the dealer trade-in price range. I have set the reserve price near the low end of the dealer trade-in price. I think you’ll find that the buy-it-now price is even a very good deal for the exceptional condition of this car. THE DETAILS… I had listed this car on eBay late last year and, since that time, I have done a much more thorough inspection of the car – due to questions I received during and after the prior listing, and in discussions with the dealer (for possible trade-in). I'm providing many more details on the condition, minor defects and blemishes (which, of course, every used car has), etc, so that there's no question as to the exact condition...and so that the buyer feels that it was 100% fairly and accurately represented. I’ve also dropped the “buy it now” and reserve prices by a couple thousand dollars. I know the buyer of this car will be very happy with the deal – for the price paid, the condition, and with the knowledge of all the details provided below (there won’t be any surprises, regrets, or things you wish you would have known about before you bought it). Personally, I've gone to look at multiple cars that were listed on eBay or elsewhere and the seller seems to always leave out some details or they over-represented it in their ad, which is a little irritating when you drive one to three hours to look at the car and find out that what they were calling "excellent" condition isn't even close to that. I might be too much of a perfectionist, but it seems only reasonable that a seller should provide all the details of every known issue since many potential buyers won't have the opportunity to see the car in person before they buy it through an online site. And, if I’m going to spend 30 grand on something, I want to know all the details about it…both good and bad. From my experience, if the seller doesn't provide all the details, it's a roll of the dice as to what you're going to find out about the car after you buy it. So, in probably more detail than most people would want to know, here's 100% of the known issues, etc. (for those of you who, like me, are perfectionists or simply want to know exactly what you’re bidding on): ENGINE and DRIVE TRAIN: - The battery tends to drain down a bit when I don’t drive it for a period of time during the winter months – the dealer says this is common for Porsches (due to the constant small power draw from security features, etc.), and the reason why I purchased a trickle charger. - The backflow prevention flap inside the fuel filler intake has stuck when I haven’t driven it for a period of time, which has the effect of preventing fuel from being added quickly at the gas station. This has occurred twice. I don’t know if this was related to the battery being a bit low at the time (which is my suspicion) or something other, but it’s also something I’ve heard other Porsche owners have experienced and which clears up on its own after one or two tanks of fuel or after I drive it for awhile. - As mentioned above, the engine has no leaks, “weeps”, and burns no oil, and the engine bay is exceptionally clean (there is no dirt and grime back in the hard-to-get-to corners as you’d see on a car where someone did a cursory cleaning and then claimed in their ad that it looked “brand new”). - I inspected the front transfer case a couple months ago and found that the oil seals on the drive shafts to the wheels do appear to leak a little. It’s not bad enough to drip on my garage floor, but it’s not completely dry either, as the engine area is…and I topped off the fluid when I inspected it. - I usually change the oil on all my vehicles at about 2,000 to 2,500 miles, no matter how much higher mileage intervals the factory recommends. I replaced the engine oil (Mobil 1 synthetic oil) and filter on this car within the last 100 miles, so it won’t need changed again for awhile. BODY and PAINT - There are no visible dents or metal defects (rust, etc.) anywhere on the car. Besides the minor paint blemishes mentioned below, the paint is in beautiful condition. - The plastic headlight covers are in excellent condition (no fading, yellowing, chips, or scratches). - There’s a small, narrow scratch (about 1-1/2” long) on the red paint of the front left brake caliper. - There are a few very tiny rock chips in the paint on the front side of both exterior mirror housings. - There’s a horizontal scratch right below the rear license plate frame (you wouldn’t see this unless you were looking for it). - There are multiple very tiny rock chips in the paint of the front bumper. - There are a very few tiny rock chips in the paint of the front hood (they’re not noticeable unless you’re standing within about 3 feet away and looking for them). - There are some light scratches in the paint on the C-pillar on the driver side, next to the rear window wiper. - There are some light paint wear marks on the door edge (not the exterior surface) of both the driver and passenger doors and a small paint chip in the door edge on the passenger side (you can’t see these unless you’re within about 2 feet or if you have the door open and you’re looking for it). - There are a few minor paint scratches by the passenger side door handle and a small chip in the paint on the bottom edge of the passenger door handle. - There is some “curb rash” (which is not visible unless you’re looking for it) on the underside of the small black plastic air dam that’s attached to the bottom of the front bumper. Also, on this same black plastic piece of trim, where it attaches to the black plastic wheel well liner in front of the left front tire, a black plastic screw / cap is missing and the black plastic edge is broken (it’s inside the wheel well and not visible unless you’re looking for it and it doesn’t cause the trim piece to hang loose). - There are some rock chips on the small painted edge on the back of the wheel wells (this is on the narrow painted portion of the fender where it wraps inside the wheel wells, not on the exterior painted surface of the fender). INTERIOR, GLASS, and MIRRORS - The side and rear windows are covered with an after-market window tint. - There are a couple small nicks in the tint material on the passenger side door window and a light scratch on the rear driver side window tint material. - There are a very small handful of micro rock chips in the windshield, most of which aren't visible unless you're looking very closely at the windshield. - All other glass and mirrors are in excellent condition. - The tiny access light on the side wall inside the front trunk (a.k.a. the “boot”) appears to be burned out. - All the rubber, black plastic trim, and the two rear black “bumperettes” (on the rear bumper) are in excellent condition. - There are some light scuff marks on the driver side door sill (which you can’t see unless the door is open and you’re looking for them). - There is light wear on the metal brake, clutch, foot rest, and gas pedals. - The leather, carpet, buttons and knobs are all in excellent condition. Even the floor mats look almost brand new (the passenger side floor mat doesn’t look like it’s ever had shoes on it) and the thread stitching on the leather is clean and in perfect condition. The interior really does look nearly brand new…and the leather smells great too. - My photos of the seats, unfortunately, aren't that good (the sun is reflecting off the leather creases, making the leather appear dry or cracked or faded, which it isn't; it's just sun reflection). The leather and carpet are still deep black and in beautiful condition. WHEELS and TIRES - There are some very light blemishes on the horizontal surface of the wheels – primarily on the rear wheels. - There is a narrow (1/16” wide) “curb rash” on the very extreme lip of the right front wheel. It isn’t noticeable unless you’re standing within about 3 feet from it and looking for it. - The air pressure in both rear tires needs to be checked on occasion (I have found that the left rear seems to leak air a little faster and should be checked about every couple months, the right rear about every six months). The front tires hold air very well and rarely need to be topped off. - The original turbo twist wheels that came on the car when new are also included with the car. They are in very good condition and have only minor blemishes. The tires on those wheels are older and probably should be replaced if you were to consider putting these wheels back on the car. Overall, all the minor defects and blemishes mentioned above can be easily addressed if you felt the need to do so. But all of them are small enough that a casual observer very likely would never notice these details. The only issues that I’ve run into that were even a small irritant were the first two mentioned – the slow battery drain and the fuel filler backflow preventer. Otherwise, it has been absolutely trouble free and a pleasant ownership experience. I do not have maintenance and service records but, from my own ownership and from what the prior owner told me, it has always been properly and well maintained. The car has a clean CARFAX, has been emissions tested (WA state) and is ready to go. Enjoy! No PayPal unless you’re paying the 3% PayPal fee. NO TRADES, NO DRAMA. Dealers / resellers: Offers outside the auction and/or below the reserve price will receive no response. Please don’t waste my time (or yours). In addition to the listed payment methods, wire transfer is also acceptable. The car is being sold “as is, where is” with no warranty, express or implied. Buyer is responsible for paying any applicable sales taxes. You are welcome to inspect the car in person or at an outside facility prior to purchase (all costs and arrangements for such inspections are the responsibility of the buyer). All financial transactions must be completed (in U.S. dollars) before delivery of the car or transfer of the title. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping of the car and all shipping charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Any claims arising from shipping damage are between the buyer and the actual shipping company. The car is located in Vancouver, Washington, which is a suburb of Portland, Oregon. On Apr-30-12 at 17:43:43 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE to original description: I have received multiple inquiries regarding whether or not various engine or drive train components have been replaced or upgraded, which is probably pretty standard and reasonable types of questions for a high performance car such as this. The general answer is, None that I’m aware of. During my ownership, none of the drive train components (other than basic maintenance items) have been replaced. And I have no maintenance records from the prior owners, so I really don’t have any idea whether they changed or replaced any major components. That includes items such as the clutch, rear main seal, IMS bearing, etc. If those types of items are a concern and you feel that they may need to be inspected and/or replaced at some point in the near future (if you were to purchase the car), you may want to factor that into your purchase price calculations.
