Up for auction this barn find ... 1938 Dodge Truck. It is a RARE commercial truck referred to as a Canopy Express and/or screensides. Designed with an open cab to facilitate passage from driver seat to cargo area. Someone at some time in the past put plywood up to seperate the cab from the cargo area, but this can be easily removed. otherwise pretty much original, untouched and solid. Because of some wood construction, very few have survived, making it even more rare... This truck sold with bill of sale only. has not been registered for decades....if ever. Had only been used on private property. I was told this was originally in service at the Alameda Naval Base back in its heyday for decades. Probably retired sometime in the 60's and in storage ever since. I'm unable to find any information on this truck via the data plates except that it is a RD-21 model, and I see the oval firewall tag number starts with letter K... very rare. I think that may indicate government/commercial use. Here is some information that a kind ebayer shared with me: Based on Vin # & on the dash gauge design + the hood side vent design . . . 1.) Your Vehicle is definitely 1938 2.) VIN 9285831 was built at the Los Angeles, CA Dodge factory 3.) RD-21 = 1 Ton, 136" wheelbase 4.) Copies of your truck's original build record are still available from Chrysler Historical (re: the work order tag affixed to windshiled when truck rolled down assembly line in 1938). . . shows what options were ordered for your truck, who the 1st owner was, & exact DAY your truck was made. Copies are still available from DaimlerChrysler for all US built trucks from 1930 to 1954, except Jeep & AMC, for $25 (US cars from 1930 to 1967 cost $45).
