Vehicle Detail

I am selling my 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo. It has a 1JZ-GTE motor swap with the heavy duty R154 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. There is about 120,000 miles on the body and about 12,000 miles on the motor since the swap which was done by me in May of 2011. For those that are unfamiliar with the 1JZ-GTE: It is a 2.5 litre turbocharged inline-6 engine that produces 280hp stock, but this one is not completely stock. The 1JZ-GTE is the predecessor of the infamous 2JZ-GTE from the MKIV Toyota Supra (iconic car from the movie Fast and the Furious). These two engines are well-known for the amount horsepower that their stock internals can produce. The only notable difference between these two motors is the displacement; the 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5 litre, while the 2JZ-GTE is 3.0 litre. These motors use a lot of the same parts which means it is easy to find performance/replacement parts for them. This car's stock engine was the 7M-GTE, a 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-6. These stock motors are notorious for overheating, rod-knock, and factory recalled cylinder head issues. You do not see many MKIII Supras on the road these days BECAUSE of this motor (in my opinion). Here is a list of the good things and modifications to the car: -This car has been my daily driver since May 2011. It gets 26+ MPG on the highway and roughly 18-20 MPG in the city depending on how much you love boost. I WOULD NOT SELL THIS CAR IF I WERE NOT MOVING TO ARIZONA; I cannot take it with me because it does not have AC. -The stock 1JZ-GTE twin turbo setup has been replaced with a single 67mm Bullseye Power turbocharger. It is great upgrade because it is a higher quality turbo that can produce more power (The stock turbos have issues with the seals and the ceramic blades on the turbine; they also restrict the amount of horsepower produced because they have internal wastegates). -New syncros/seals in the R154 transmission with a warranty from Cottman Transmissions -ACT Stage 3 clutch kit (Sprung disc for daily driverability) -1-piece aluminum driveshaft (huge weight reduction compared to stock steel 2-piece) needs to be rebalanced -Large front-mount intercooler with 2.5" piping and 4-ply couplers -TiAL 44mm External Wastegate -JDM 440cc Fuel Injectors (Stock 370cc would be too lean for upgraded turbo/intake/exhaust) -Aeromotive Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator with gauge -Bosch 255 LPH Fuel Pump -3" downpipe -3" Flowmaster Super 44 Series -Apexi MegaPhone Dunk tip -Tokico Blue struts with Tien 2" lowering springs -Drilled/Slotted Brake Rotors (front and rear) with new pads -Professionally smoked tail lights -17x8 Konig Monsoon wheels (Clear coat is peeling on lips and a bit of rash) ***** BEST PART*****- This car has NOT been abused like most swapped/performance cars! Most people with turbo/swap cars will crank up the boost and run their cars as hard as they can. I know better. This car's computer/MAP sensor is still stock and limits the boost at 11.5 lbs. and it still make somewhere around 400 horsepower! With PROPER TUNING, I have no doubt that the boost limit can be raise and 500 horsepower can be achieved SAFELY. THE BAD AND THE UGLY: -I parked in Long-Term Parking at Charlotte Douglas Airport while I was in Sacramento for a week and I returned to a broken driver side window, a broken dash trim, damaged window molding, and a missing radio deck. I have a police report from the incident, but I do not have comprehensive coverage on this car so insurance is not repairing the car. I have already had the window replaced, but that is all I have been able to repair so far. -No AC -Need a lower speedometer cable for the Speedometer to work (Not difficult to install) I have been using the RPM to determine how fast I'm going. -Tachometer only works at idle and light throttle (a small resistor has to be replaced for it to fully function because of the motor swap). -Rear defroster does not work; could be a fuse, relay, or short. -Driver side door lock sensor does not always work (I always lock and unlock from passenger side) -The intercooler piping hangs a low behind the bumper so you have to go slow over speed bumps OR get a custom bent pipe to replace it. -Reverse lights do not work because of the motor swap(not necessary for inspection, but can be wired to work if you have the time to research it) -Fuel door lock pin is stuck in the open position so the fuel door doesn't exactly close all the way and does not lock. -stock antenna is broken so I covered the hole in the body and wired a digital glass antenna for the radio -Rear speakers are odd sized so the owner before me rigged some ugly external board thing but the 6x9's on it work. -Carpet in 3 areas need shampooing and cleaning(No smell or anything, just stains). -The paint is in poor shape but looks good from 20 feet away -Body has dings here and there, no evidence of any real accidents. So there's the good, the bad, and the ugly. Considering it's a 24year old car, I'd have to say I've seen A LOT worse! To sum it all up, this is a 400hp daily driver that gets pretty decent gas mileage, is NOT something that everyone else has, and has the potential to be ridiculous. NOTICE: The car will be available for local pickup in Bluefield, WV after the auction ends. I have training there for my new job and since this is my daily driver, I will be using it until it is sold.On Apr-21-12 at 09:40:48 PDT, seller added the following information: ATTENTION!: The car will NOT be available to pick up until at least April 28th. A piece of the friction material came off the clutch and scortched the flywheel so I took it to the shop (Cottman Transmissions) and they are going to replace the flywheel with a light weight flywheel and install a new stage 3 clutch kit(clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, pilot, etc). The car should be done April 26th or 27th because they have to wait for the parts to be shipped but I will be in West Virginia (training for my new job) until the 28th.
