An eBayer asked about the engine; and here's my response: Yes, there is a VW stamp above the engine number. At the end of the 924's development, Volkswagen backed out of the joint venture, which left Porsche carrying the entire weight of the 924 project. With Porsche scrambling for resources to deliver finished 924s to Dealer showrooms, Porsche needed a "stop gap" model to fill pre-existing 924 orders. Hence, Porsche resurrected the 912 for a one year only run of the 912E (just 2,099 produced). Porsche fitted the 911 body with the 914's VW sourced Type-4 engine. Engine builders such as Jake Raby of Air Cooled Technology dot com, have raved of this engines incredible durability/reliability, lightweight and low heat operating temps of the venerable VW Type-4 engine!!!! Additionally, take a peek at the engine picture, Porsche mounted the Type-4 engine DEEP in the engine bay, for an incredibly low center of gravity. I love/adore the sound of this engine and deeply appreciate how little heat it generates (runs remarkably cool). Out of all my Porsches, this 912E is my favorite driver!!!
