Vehicle Detail

Up for auction today is a black (originally white) manual 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV-6 with 69XXX miles. The body of the car is in good overall shape. As is common with these cars, though, it does have some minor rust on the body and some rusting to the undercarriage--although I've been told not to structural points (I haven't been able to see it while raised from underneath myself). The consensus from people who have seen it seems to be that there is a typical amount of rust for this model, keeping in mind they are highly prone to rust in the first place. I am in no way an auto body expert, but I doubt this is the GTV-6 you want to bring back to showroom quality, from a rust standpoint. Anyway, the pictures should help give a general idea. The front bumper shows some wear but is intact. The driver's side door only locks from the inside (I assume an easy fix) and a piece of the outside latch has cracked off--but it is still functional. The A/C is long gone, without surprise. The interior is black leather and in very good overall condition, although it does have some signs of wear from almost 30 years of use. The odometer can take some time to warm up, which has affected the mileage, but it generally does kick in and I can't say how long the odometer has been like this, so I doubt the difference in mileage is actually that great. Otherwise, there are some cosmetic issues issues to the interior, but nothing too significant. Also to note, it does have metric tires. I was using this car as a daily driver and, to me, it drove amazingly well. It handles well, is incredibly powerful, and sounds great (and gets a lot of attention). It then stalled out on me and although it will start up and idle, it sometimes does/sometimes does not stall once put into gear. I am by no means a mechanic, but this seems like another easy fix for anyone familiar with Alfa Romeos. I inadavertantly let the battery run down while it has been sitting, and it does need a boost to get started at this point, which sometimes is easy, sometimes takes a little patience. The only other issue to note is that the clutch does stick some in 2nd gear, as is almost always the case with the GTV-6 over time, although it is still functional/driveable. I was planning on replacing it with a Milano clutch, which now seems to be the standard when restoring this vehicle. So, obviously, the car is sold as is/where is. Maybe you can use it as a daily driver like I did, maybe you can make it a track car, maybe you can use it for parts. If you are in the Chicago area, you can come contact me to come by and take a look--but bring some booster cables!
