Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is VERY RARE, very early production 1968 DATSUN 510 2 door Sedan restoration project car. This is the rare early 1968 model, with the siamesed/suicide windsheild wipers, 1968 only dash, and the 1968 only small tail lamps. Most of the 1968 production cars were 4 door Sedans & Wagons............very few 2 doors were made. This car is mostly disassembled, about 75% complete, but is currently a rolling shell with most of the suspension in place, plus lots of parts. This car is a very solid car originally from Colorado, currently located in Southwestern Michigan. Has some typical 510 rust, but not rotted away like a typical Midwestern car. Floors are original & very solid, but needs some very small patchwork on the very front edges of the front floor pans where they meet the toeboard/bulkhead. The outer rear section of the rocker panels just ahead of the rear wheels, the lower rear 1/4 panel just behind the rear wheels, plus a few more minor problem spots. The factory tar insulation has been properly removed from the inside floor pans (you can see the factory red primer). This car has NEVER BEEN HIT, but has some light hail damage to the roof and trunk lid. The original rear tail lamp panel (1968 ONLY) is in excellent condition! I have most of the rare 1968 only parts to go with it, but the car itself is not quite complete, as it was disassembled by someone else. Most of the paint (white color) is ORIGINAL. Comes with a very nice set of BLACK interior panels, a decent back seat, dash is mostly complete but the dash pad is shot. I do NOT have front seats. Comes with a stock L16 engine, and stock 4 speed transmission, BOTH need rebuilding, both NOT currently in the car. Here is what I do have to go with the car........... *68 grille + headlamp bezels - RARE, very nice *68 tail lights - RARE, decent condition *metal c-pillar vents - decent condition *no bumpers at this time, I do NOT have the 1968 rear bumper *68 wiper motor + linkage - have both, I believe to be complete *68 wiper cowl panel with washer squirts - very nice *68 wiper arms - very nice *68 dash assembly - out of car, looks mostly complete, but the dash pad is shot *rear seat back - decent *rear seat bottom - decent *no front seats *interior panels BLACK - I have a nice set of uncut black panels *glass - have ALL pieces of glass (all are out of car) *front windshield glass - looks good, no cracks, no stars *rear 1/4 windows - good *window regulators - good, but need to be cleaned up (out of car) *all hood, trunk & door latches (still on car) *hood - ORIGINAL, good with small dent at front *doors - ORIGINAL, excellent *trunk lid - ORIGINAL, good with some light hail damage *front fenders - I will include a good pair of stock steel front fenders, both with a little rust, both very repairable *all floors are good & solid, never been patched, front floors have a little rust thru right at the forward edge where it meets the toe board/firewall *Battery tray in engine compartment has been removed *front seat cross members & transmission mounting plates removed by previous owner, but do come with car *rolling shell - it appears that most of stock suspension is there * 68 upper dash cowl trim, mounts between dash pad & windshield glass * 68 wiring harness, TWO bundles, looks very clean, if it's anything like the 1969-1973 then it appears to be complete! * 68 wiring harness relays etc etc, still plugged in to main harness! * ignition switch + ONE door lock + trunk lock + gas filler lock * pair of 68 window cranks & pair of 68 inner door handles * LH outer door mirror * gas tank * plus a box of misc small parts Although I am a 510 enthusiast, this car was purchased disassembled, as a rolling shell, with parts in boxes, so I am selling it as a PROJECT car missing parts. I was told that it was stripped down to put in a V8 engine, but thankfully they stopped just before cutting into it. There is a pencil line drawn on the inside of the firewall, but again, NO CUTTING WAS DONE! The above mentioned seat crossmembers & trans brackets were properly removed by drilling out the spot welds, so they can be welded back in quite easily. The "dark spots/areas" that you see in the pics of the floor pans, and trunk pan, are simply surface oxidation/rust, OR places where the factory seam sealer has become brittle, and "chipped away". Those spots are NOT rust holes! The only apparent rust holes in the pans have already been described as being at the very front leading edge of the floor pans (right & left), where the vertical toe board meets the floor pan. There is rust in the rocker panels, and the lower rear 1/4 panels (as already been described), but that is easily repaired. Please email with any further questions, or requests for additional pictures! I consider this a relatively solid car, NOT a midwestern car, as it came out of Colorado in July 2010. I do have a CLEAN MICHIGAN TITLE IN MY NAME, showing that this is a 1968 model year car. Title matches the VIN # stamped on the firewall PL510021007, but no VIN TAGS came with the car. THIS IS A VERY RARE EARLY 1968 MODEL WITH A MATCHING LOW VIN # PL510021007. Please email with any further questions! ***SORRY, NO INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS*** Seller reserves the right to sell only within the lower 48 states. Please be sure to check ALL my feedback for confidence! $500 DEPOSIT due within 3 days after auction ends!!!! Seller accepts ONLY bank drafts, and will release the car ONLY after the bank draft has completely cleared with my bank..........PERIOD!!! No exceptions. CASH PAYMENT IS ACCEPTED, AND IS ALWAYS THE BEST WAY!!!! Sorry, NO personal checks, so please don't ask! Seller reserves the right to ship ONLY within the lower 48 States. On Apr-10-12 at 06:55:31 PDT, seller added the following information: The FRONT inner fender panels/upper fender rails are rock solid, with NO RUST THRU. They are lightly oxidized, as Datsun only laid down primer, not paint under there! The "black" areas on the bottoms of the upper rails is simply black undercoating, which I believe to be factory applied. Again, there is NO RUST or damage to these areas.
