FIRST IMPRESSION: The MR2 Spyder was reintroduced to the American market for the 2000 model year after a five-year hiatus. There were few cars at any price with the MR2's layout: a two-seat convertible with engine mounted mid-ship. By mounting the engine behind the seats, but ahead of the rear axle, the car's weight is evenly split front-to-back. For the enthusiast driver, this perfect weight balance enhances the driving experience. While researching this car to prepare to sell it, one thing become strikingly obvious: there are no comparable cars. The only other cars to boast of such a layout are the Porsche Boxster, base price: $42,600, and Ferrari 360 Modena Spider, base price: $160,125. The Toyota starts at $23,735. Looking at those numbers, someone's getting overcharged. The only even close comparable car when it comes to price would be the Miata, but to compare this Spyder to a Miata would be unfair to Mazda. So, this 2000 MR2 Spyder stands alone, in a class by itself. The MR2 is made for performance considerations only, just like its higher-priced competition. Weighing just about 2,200 pounds and measuring a scant 153 inches long, this is one small buggy. That's why the 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine is all that's needed to motivate this Toyota tidbit to 60 mph in under 7 seconds. The engine is rated at 138 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 125 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm. This car moves smartly. With this available power, a manual transmission is necessary. So you'd expect a five-speed manual transmission to be standard and it is. What makes this car really surprising is Toyota's new 5-speed Sequential Manual Transmission (SMT). At first glance, this Car is a Looker. I have personally been driving it since we traded it in and just LOVE IT! This car is in overall much better condition than I would expect from the year. Driving a convertible just puts you in a good mood. Top Down, Wind In Your Hair, Warm Sun Shine, and Your Favorite Music just makes for a perfect drive! There is just everything great about this car! The list of standard equipment is impressive--anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, power windows/locks, AM-FM stereo with cassette and CD, glass rear window with defroster and 15-inch radial tires. Exterior: 2000 marked the re introduction of the Toyota Spyder. With the new body style, This Spyder is a great looking Sporty car that offers plenty of fun, sport, and performance, all at a great price! The Exterior of this Convertible looks Great, especially considering the year. The Liquid Silver Metallic Paint looks really Classy. The Paint is very shiny and has a slight metallic look. You just don’t miss this fun and sporty car heading down the highway. This Toyota is riding on a set of Factory Upgraded Alloy Wheels. They are shiny and beautiful. The tires have plenty of life left. The front and rear bumpers are painted to match the body of the car as are the door handles. There are side slits in a coordinating black color that add to the overall flare of this car. The front and rear lenses on this Toyota were a huge design innovation in 2000. The oversized, square front headlights are just now becoming popular on domestic cars. Leave it to Toyota to be 13 years ahead of their competition. The rear tail lights are also large and angular. The mid engine design calls for the rear trunk vents that just looks cool. Toyota did a fantastic job redesigning and re introducing the Spyder. Reclaiming the youthfullness of the original MR2, adding the convertible, and meshing a very distinctive Toyota body with contemporary updates. Convertible Top: The convertible top on this MR2 is super easy to use. Two manual latches and it goes up and down with surprising ease. As a petite woman, I usually struggle with a manual top but this Spyder is super easy to use. The convertible top is manually operated from the driver's seat. Toyota designers paid attention to the looks of the top when folded. Since most convertible owners never use a tonneau cover that comes with most tops, the MR2's top is designed so it looks good without it. Losing the tonneau cover also saves weight. A small flip-up wind blocker helps prevent wind buffeting. The top features a glass rear window with defroster. The Convertible Top on this Toyota is in overall very good condition. The top comes complete with a glass rear window with defrost. Overall, the Exterior Condition of this Mazda is in Very Good Condition. We do not see any indications of paint or body work. Interior: The Overall Interior of this Toyota MR2 is very nice. Taking the pictures was a breeze as the interior just looks great! The Interior of this 2000 Toyota MR2 looks great and is a perfect compliment to the exterior colors. The interior is very sophisticated combination of Black and Gray with Touches of Carbon Fiber accents. The Seats are two tone. The primary seat color is black with insert panels of dark gray. The carpet is a matching black with factory MR2 floor mats. The Floor Mats are embroidered with Toyota MR2. You will find touches of Carbon Fiber accenting the front dash for an added touch of class. There is a leather steering wheel and Gear Shifter. This Toyota has a factory Radio Upgrade with In Dash CD, Cassette and AM FM Radio that Sounds Just Amazing! Even with the top down and cruising the highway, the radio still sounds great! Notice the gauges on this Convertible. I really like the look of this very contemporary update on sport styling. The large, exaggerated gauges are easy to read. These large gauges are easier to read and with just a quick glance you can easily read the speed, rpm, temperature and gas. Power Upgrades surround with Fully Power Windows, Door Locks, Power Side View Mirrors, Air Conditioning, Tilt Wheel, Multi Point Adjustable Driver Seat, Rear Window Defrost, and more! The 2 front bucket seats are multi adjustable. Both seats flip forward and slide up for access to the area behind the seats. This MR2 is nicely loaded with all the power features for a comfortable ride. A Convertible Top, Ice Cold Air Conditioning, CD Radio and Cassette Player, Power Windows, and More Load this car up! The buttons for the power windows are in between the front passenger seats. There is also a storage console located in between the seats. There are pull out cup holders in this dash. Included with this MR2 is a Key and Original Owner’s Manual. Overall the Interior of this Toyota is well equipped and in better condition than I would expect. I usually see more wear and tear on a 1999 model convertible, but this MR2 has obviously been loved. The only noteable wear is a little on the driver’s seat. There is a little wear on the middle of the lower cushion and less on the side bolster. ///There are not rips or holes just some wear on the upholstery. This car comes with New Seat Covers for Both Front Seats so any seat wear really does not matter. Under The Hood: This Toyota MR2 comes equipped with a powerful and fun to drive 1.8L 4 Cylinder engine that still gets 30+ miles per gallon.
