Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1946 Willys CJ2A. I recently purchased a couple of Willys CJ's and a collection of parts. This CJ2A was part of the package and as much as I would like to keep it, it would be several years before I could get to it. Therefore, I have decided to sell it to focus on my other CJ2A. Although not curently drivable, I feel that it is solid enough and complete enough to be worthy of a restoration. Aside from the wheels, front bumper and rear tire mount, it appears to be pretty much original. It had an aluminum top (already sold) which I am sure helped to preserve the interior. Body and Frame - The body tub is in pretty solid shape considering the age of the vehicle with the worst part being the floors. The front floors have some holes (see photos) but are original and have not been patched. A previous owner has placed a piece of flat steel over the rear floor section. It is solid and looks good but would need replaced if you are wanting a show type restoration. I have a picture of the floor riser which looks solid (this is usually rusted out). There are a few other small holes in the tub but overall relatively easy fixes. The hood is one of the better ones that I have seen. The front fenders appear good but will need new supports underneath. The tailgate is shot and will need replaced. The outer windshield frame appears sound and straight with just surface rust. The lower portion of the inner windshield frame is rotted but I have another inner frame with a good lower portion that i will include. The seat frames look sound with just a few pinholes in the sheetmetal portions of the back that could be easily fixed and/or covered. The grill looks restorable. The Jeep comes with a gas tank. It looks like it has had some past repair work and is missing the sending unit. With a bit of work I think it can be put back into service. The two body tags and the front frame tag are intact. The odometer is showing 3487. I have no idea if that is correct. I was told that this Jeep might have been owned at one time by the Greenbrier Resort and maybe the milage is correct. Frame - The frame looks solid and the front frame horns appear straight and very usable. The rear crossmember on these Jeeps is usually rusted. This one appears solid and usable. The front axle has locking hubs. I will assume they work but I did not try them. Drive Train - I replaced the spark plugs, changed the oil and added a new battery and was able to get it to start (hot wired it). Someone removed the floor starter button and converted the ignition switch to the later conventional style. I have a floor starter button and the heavy cable from another Jeep that I will include with the purchase if you wish to go back to original. The starter appears to be a rebuilt unit (label on the side). I did not hear any wierd sounds or noises while the motor was running. After running the motor, I noticed a small coolant leak from the water pump area. My assumption is a leaking water pump seal from the motor sitting so long. I did not have the tank attached and could only running it by pouring a bit of gas down the carb. It came to me without carb cap, crossover tube and air cleaner. I have those pieces from another Jeep that I will throw in. The transmission is presently stuck in neutral. I did not want to force the shifter. Plan on taking the transmission apart (fortunately a relatively easy rebuild) The brake pedal goes to the floor so plan on doing some brake work. The battery is brand new (purchased last week). If you already have a battery or plan to convert the Jeep to 12 Volt I will be happy to purchase the new 6 Volt battery back for $60. Since I did not drive the Jeep I can not make any claims about the drivetrain. I would suggest going through all of the major components. Options - I have two extra motors (basically just the short block with head). I believe one is from a CJ3A and one from a CJ2A based on the attached mounts. I know nothing about them except that they both will turn over. The winning bidder can have them both if interested for an additional $100. I also have a set of front seats and a rear seat that were recently upholstered in a tan colored vinyl. The rear seat is not a Willys seat (looks more like CJ5) and does not have the lower frame. I have the lower rear seat frame from another CJ2A. The winning bidder can purchase these seats for an additional $300 (or $200 if I keep the two seats currently in the Jeep). Details - The Jeep is located in Charleston, WV. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auction's end via Paypal . The balance is due within 7days via Cash or Certified Bank Cashiers Check unless other arangements are agreed upon prior to auctions end. Title and vehicle do not move until all payments clear. I can store the Jeep for up to 30 days. Please contact me prior to bididing if you expect to need more time. I have some flexibility. I have done my best to describe the vehicle. Keep in mind that this is a project and that it is over 65 years old. It will require some work but in the end I think you could have a nice vehicle. Please study the pictures and feel free to contact me for questions or clarifications. I will have limited access to my computer during the early part of the week but should be able to respond within 24 hours (faster towards the end of the week). Good Luck! On Mar-19-12 at 08:23:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Due to the age of the tires I don't know that I would want to tow this with a two wheeled tow dolly (at least any distance at any great speed). Plan on bringing your trailer. If you are considering having this shipped you will be required to make all arrangements (make sure you are dealing with a company that can handle a non-operational vehicle). With appropriate notice I would be available to assist in loading. On Mar-25-12 at 04:55:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had a couple of questions on this vehicle regarding the title and loading. This Willys CJ2A does come with a good title. It rolls and as long as you have a trailer, we can get it on it (I have a small hand operated winch).
