Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1928 Model A Ford 4-door sedan, "Leatherback" Briggs body. It does NOT have a title, hence may be considered either a parts vehicle or a restorable one depending upon your state's requirements. It's been stored since approximately 1960, Minnesota wasn't even issuing titles back then, just annual registration cards (long gone). The car is unrestored, not running or operable, needs attention in most areas, but has a lot to offer. I had planned to work on it but have decided it's too big a project at this time. The positives are the following: It's nearly complete, hasn't been altered, is extremely solid (I couldn't find any rust holes on it!), basically straight (fenders do have some dents as does the rear body, but not bad), it's not weathered and appears to have been stored inside. The fenders all need work but it looks like only the right front one has a crack that needs welding. I can see that someone has tapped out dents in the fenders over the years and this doesn't show in the pictures but expect that they will need attention. The interior is still there and looks complete, including the headliner, even though it all needs replacement. From what I can tell, the engine number indicates manufacture in October 1928 but I don't know where to look for a serial number. Parts are readily available for these cars, making them an enjoyable, simple and fairly reasonable vehicle to restore. It comes with a new exhaust system (not installed) and an extremely nice grill shell to replace the one that's on it. All glass is even still in it with the exception of the front passenger's door glass. It has the reddish color steering wheel too. The wood framing does need work, I know it has some bad areas. It even still has what appears to be the original front wooden floor boards! Originally the car was a pretty green color as seen where the black paint has chipped off in places. The black is obviously a very old paint job and looks like it was done with a brush. The engine is currently stuck, the last owner said it was still able to be turned over by crank just a few years ago, so that's probably not too significant. In fact, I put penetrating oil in the cylinders and it may be freed up by the time the auction is over, who knows. The transmission lever is also stuck in neutral, again I doubt it's a big deal, just the result of sitting for 50 years! It only has one of the correct 21 inch wheels on it, so a buyer will need to find 4 more which shouldn't be a big problem due to the availability of original wheels left over from street rod building. The car is stored in Corcoran, MN and can be stored for up to 30 days after the auction ends while the buyer arranges shipping. It can also be inspected by appointment if desired. Please let me know if you have any questions! Thanks! If a buyer needs a bill-of-sale from me, that's fine too if it would help them get a title in their state.
