Vehicle Detail
For Sale - Barn find. 1963 Lincoln Continental 4dr convertible. This car has been sitting in a barn/garage since 1987. It was driven in and forgotten for almost 24yrs. We have saved this old girl and brought her out and cleaned her all up. The paint is the original color as indicated by the inside of the trunk, hood, and door jams. There is evidence of a repaint on the rear quarters but nowhere else. The leather interior again looks to be mostly original but there is some color changes that make me suspect some repairs. This car is complete, only missing 5 items that we can tell. The spare tire and wheel is missing although the hold down hardware is all there. The bumper jackis missing. The engine oil dipstick is missing. A small bracket under the dash on the drivers side that holds the switch for the top. The switch is there but not the bracket. A tube that runs from the heater hose port on the rear of the motor thro the choke housing on the carb and then back to thethe same heater hose. I assume that this tube was made of aluminum and finally just disintegrated. This car was sold new in 1962 in CA then in 1966 it was registered in AZ. In 1987 it was bought and moved to CO and put into the barn/garage. Last licensed in AZ 1983. The years have been very good to our Lincoln since it was kept inside, and it has not seen the elements. We can not find any rust on the car. We have had it on a lift, have had all the seats out and the top up and down and have not found any rust with one exception. A small corner ate up on the battery tray. As you can see by the pics this is a very clean car that will make an easy restoration project. We have cleaned and serviced the convertible top pump and have ran it mutiple times to make the top run up and down. Everything in the top mechanism works smoothly. The experienced eye will notice that the flipper motor and transmission are not in the pics. We had it off cleaning it up when the pics were taken. All lights, turn signals, heater motor, electric seats, and front windows work. The switches for the rear windows need replacing to make them work. The radio does not work and the clock does not work. There are only a couple of small dings/dents on the body. One is in the rear quarter panel on the drivers side about the size of a childs fist. The second is on the passenger side on the rocker panel it has a scrape that put a small dent in the rocker panel then jumps to the front of the passenger rear fender with a small crease then jumps to the chrome strip behind the quarter next to the bumper. You will see all of these in the photos included. The rear taillight lens on the drivers side is cracked although still in one piece. The only other problem we can find is that the engine is seized. It has not been run in 24 years. We are attempting at this time to free it. As you can see the body, top mechanism and seats are in fantastic shape given the cars age and as I have said before almost everything is here for a fantastic restoration. These are pretty rare cars. Total production figures for 1963 was 31233, 28095 sedans, 3138 4dr convertibles. These figures are according to automotive mileposts.I have not been able to find out how many Iverness green, parchment leather, a/c equipped cars were made, but here is one of the original 3138 cars. This was car number 9596 off the assembly line. The only 2 options missing from this car are speed control and automatic headlight dimmer. Originalowners manual included. Please email back for additional pics or information. Will be happy to give phone number at thattime. I however will not tell what our reserve is, this is an auction. Thanks for your interest. Please bid responsibly. The car does not leave until paid for. This car is sold as is where is. Good luck bidding. On Feb-08-12 at 11:19:37 PST, seller added the following information: I have added 2 new pics. We re-installed the flipper door motor and trans.
